Start off the Week with a Boom!

Hey, 5B! Just wanted to wish you a happy Monday. Mrs. Mahr is your sub. She usually enjoys coming to 5B's homeroom, so please give her your most respectful selves! Remember, there is a goofy schedule because of music practice.
I'll miss you Monday, but I'm excited for Isaiah's big day! Hopefully, I can bring something on Tuesday to help celebrate! Be good. Make yourselves and me proud!

BIG NEWS!!!!!!!!! LILY'S a MAMMA!!!!!!! Check out Lily to see how she's doing. Click on this link. http://www.bear.org/ And I'll hopefully have some new learning to share with you on Tuesday!

Take care,
Mrs. Sorenson

Check Out Lily!

Since we don't have class today, 5B, I'm going to assign you some homework. Pass on this message to anyone you see or chat with today. Your homework is to check out Lily. She is very active and has been in and out of her den. It's amazing to see her face so close up. The way she cleans her fur and looks around reminds me of my dog, Ebony. I'm guessing she's not going to be as tame as Ebony!

All I know is, when I do start to see my darling little angels again, it will be "work, work, work". Miss Gould is only with us for 3 more days, so I hope she gets a chance to see a bit more of our regular schedule.

If for some reason I DON'T see you on Friday, I wanted you to know that I will be gone on Monday, January 25 for Isaiah's final adoption meetings! I'm very excited about this, but I wish we would have had more school days before I was gone again!

So, I will make NO predictions about seeing you or weather or anything, since every other time I do, we end up having no school. So, take care, have fun, and we'll see you sometime!! Just be ready to get back to work when I finally do see you again.

Go make a snowman!

Do I Know You???

So..... here we are again... week after week of twisted up schedules. I'm all about having time to relax, but, man, can't we just get back into the groove of things??

I'm glad 5B got a little bit of class time today with their perspective drawings. I got a call from a few 5B students saying they had checked the Optical Illusions Gallery and saw the scary one that I wouldn't show you in class. They said they screamed! So, if you dare check it out, good luck!

If you haven't checked on Lily, the black bear, in a while, you should remember to do so. She's been collecting twigs and stuff for bedding. I'm predicting she'll have her cubs before Monday. I have no scientific reason for knowing this, but I'm thinking she's making a bed so she can give birth.

I have NO idea if I'll see you guys on Thursday, but if we do, we have music practice because our music program is in about 2 weeks, and you only have about 4 - 5 practices left. Also, we'll be doing some special activities in homeroom time the next couple of days. So, hopefully, I'll get a chance to show them to you!!

I'm putting a survey on the side about school and weather issues. Make sure to vote for your thought!

Take care and have a good night!

Missing you.... Mrs. Sorenson

Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!

Well, I hope everyone enjoyed another day off from school. At least this day was planned and was for a very special and important reason. Visit the link below to find out more about what Martin Luther King, Jr. did for our country.

http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/mlkihaveadream.htm(Click on the link. It will give you a few options to listen to or watch . You could also watch a video of his speech if you search it on Google.)

I enjoyed my weekend in Iowa City. I waved to the city for Miss Gould, since it is her hometown. I shopped a bit. The Hawkeyes won their game, so my husband was happy. And Isaiah got his first "tatoo." So it was a big weekend for us! Also, I am SOOO happy that I got to finish my Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn! I'll need suggestions from you guys for my next Read to Self. I need something really good!

Tomorrow SHOULD be a normal Tuesday, but you never know. If you're in band, remember to bring your instrument for individual and group lessons. Oh, and I'm excited to share with you more new things I've learned!

Don't forget to check in on Lily, the black bear. The website says it could be any day now. Her position has changed, so maybe it is going to be SOON!!! Too cool! www.bear.org

See ya in the mornin', 5B Sweethearts!

Welcome Back, Take Two!

I've been watching the weather forecast, and I'm really thinking we're safe for the week. But who knows?!! Well, let's try this coming back to school thing again. If you checked the blog on Thursday or Friday, you know that we'll be having a schedule change on Mondays through Thursdays for the entire month of January. This is because of a new music schedule so you can practice as a whole 5th grade. See the new schedule for Monday below. It's not too different. We just have music at a different time but on the SAME DAY as before. However, your class times may be different now, too.

Monday:
8:45 - 9:15 Homeroom
9:20 - 10:35 SS/Sci.
10:40 - 11:15 Begin Literacy
11:20 - 11:50 Group Music
Lunch/Recess/Mentoring
1:00 - 1:45 Continue Literacy
1:50 - 3:05 Math

I'm excited to have a homeroom time with you guys on Monday morning. I don't like it when we don't have time to share about weekends, read our class book, look through book orders, etc. Oh, and I'm SOOO excited to share with you the information I've been learning each day. Remember, one of my resolutions was to learn something new everyday and share it with you! Well, even though we haven't been in school, I've been learning and recording it so I can share it with you. There's some cool stuff in this world I didn't know about.

Well, happy Sunday, and we'll be seeing you tomorrow. Oh, for those of you who have Edmodo accounts, Ms. Twetten said you should be checking it for assignments. Thought I would give you a heads-up!

One Day Back and Needing a Break???

Well, 5B, I was thinking it would be so great to get into the "swing" of things being back 3 days in a row. Oops! Not so much, I guess! Hopefully everyone is staying warm and enjoying ANOTHER vacation!

Thanks for the comments on the posts. I'm glad Miss Gould will be with us for January, too. I just hope we don't have too many snow days so she gets to see what being in 5th grade is really like. She will NOT attend class with us on Mondays though. That's her day to meet with her college professors and chat about how things are going. Since she only has had 1 day with us, I'm hoping she doesn't have too much to complain about yet?!!

I wanted to give you a heads up for a schedule change for the month of January. Mrs. Holten would like to get you ready for your music program for the beginning of February. The best way to do that is to meet with ALL 5th graders at the same time. So, our music schedule will be changing along with the rest of our daily schedules except for Fridays. So, check the blog again later this weekend, probably Sunday night if you want to get a "sneak peak" for our schedule change.

Have fun, and get some rest. Now, I expect NOBODY to come to school tired or grumpy since you have 4 extra days to get used to the idea of being back to school!! It was great to see everyone on Wednesday!

Welcome Back, 5B Babycakes!!

Well, it's countdown time! Only a few hours of vacation left! Get some rest tonight because I KNOW Wednesday will be a long day after such a relaxing break from school. So, get rid of the "sleepies" and "grumpies". OK?

I'm excited to see everyone. I saw a few comments on the blog over the last couple of days. Thanks for your thoughts. Someone made the suggestion to become pen pals with Maranda. What a great idea. That could become one of our weekly jobs even. We'll see. We can chat more about it this week.

OK, on my last post, I mentioned there is a surprise for us when we're back at school. All I will tell you is that we need to make room for another 5Ber. You'll have to wait until Wednesday morning to find out more! Heeheehe! I know... I'm so mean!

Well, I let you enjoy your last night off. I've got some work to do and some report cards to work on! Fun, fun!!

See you little 5B Angels (ding) in the morning!

Happy 2010!

Hope everyone had a fun night/day for New Years! It's now the final weekend before school starts back up! I have to get my mind set back into "school mode." Students are lucky to have a few extra days of vacation still! Make sure to enjoy it and get rested up so you're not dragging like zombies the first days back, ok??

Since we didn't get to have our last day of class before break, we also were not able to give Maranda a proper farewell. I'm going to see her this weekend. I've made plans to go to her house. I'll tell her our "song" we had planned, but I don't think I'll sing it to her without my 5B "chorus". I wanted you to know that she will receive 2 gifts from the 5B class. One gift is a calendar, a lot like the one we made in literacy, but the top part is all pictures of 5B students! This will be a way for her to keep us in her heart and mind even though she is in a new town. The other gift is a blue pull-over jacket so she remembers her "home team". I'll let you know if she has anything to share back with her 5B classmates when I see you on Wednesday, January 6.

Oh, I finished the 3rd book in Twilight, Eclipse. I just can't put them down!! I'm trying to save the last book, Breaking Dawn, for when we get back into school and do some Read to Self time. But I'm having a hard time staying away from them. I'll try. If not, I'll have to find something else. I may need some suggestions from you about good books you've read recently. So, be ready to spout off some book titles!

Enjoy your weekend. I've had a wonderful vacation but missed my little angels! There's a surprise I have to tell you about coming on Wednesday when I see you again, but I'll wait until it's a little closer!! Bunny - out!
