WHAT a WEDNESDAY!!!

5B had the best day today! Every teacher that worked with you today was able to give a compliment of some sort or another! SOOOOOO proud of you! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see this each and every day for the rest of our 5th grade time together.

We have Hanan and Zach who will do their blogger post tomorrow (Thursday). Then, hopefully, we'll have our whole class here (get better Anna, we miss you), and we can celebrate a new Star of the Week. Don't forget to vote. I'm thinking it will be a pretty tough decision this week with so many students being responsible and respectful in all parts of their days!

Reminders....
Friday - Commercial Shoot, field trip permission slip in, Read It & Eat It for April

I'll know you checked the blog tonight if you can come up an acrostic poem to spell the word "blob" since we have the blob in the classroom, and we played "blob tag" today. My example is this...
Big
Lump
Of
Ball

See you all tomorrow for another FANTABULOUS day!!

Also don't forget to work on commercial and piece #4. Another thing u should know is extra credit is due April 28. Don't forget to make Mrs.Sorenson proud everyday we can.

We will know if u checked the blog if u come up to Hailey or Karley and say Quack Quack in your best duck voice and u have to say it right when you get in before attendance and pledge and it has to be the right way.

Rain, Rain, Go Away...

Afternoon, little darlings... I hope you stayed dry throughout this rainy and gloomy weekend. I'm ready for the 70 degree weather to find its way back to us again! Friday was a fantastic report from the many substitutes that were with all of you, so thank you for showing what 5B is all about!

With Friday's busy ending though, we weren't able to blog about Lindsey being our Star of the Week. So, I'll know you checked the blog today if you have a compliment written down for Lindsey BEFORE we start our blogging about her. We'll do this IMMEDIATELY after The Pledge. Have your comment written on a piece of paper and when she calls on you, read it to the class and then put it on my desk.

Upcoming events this week....
Monday - Commercial Script due - published, 2 idioms, 30 sec.-1 min., full of lively verbs and adjectives, memorized (by commercial shoot)
Tuesday - Puberty Packet
Friday - Commercial Shoot

Have a super end of your weekend... I'd like to hear about them. I heard there was excitement at the movie Friday night, so I'm a bit curious about that!

Thanks for the Serious Discussion

5B, I'm quite impressed with the discussion we had today about the items that have been missing throughout the year. I appreciate all of your ideas and suggestions. Let's just work together to always do the right thing and help each other to make better decisions.

Class time seemed better today, with less chatting and more working. So, please keep it up! Let's give 100% effort each and everyday! That's what 5B is capable of! I know it because I've seen it!

A couple reminders... and heads-ups...
1) Let's not forget Star of the Week this Week... Be sure to look at ALL of the qualities we listed above the Smartboard and choose the student WISELY and HONESTLY. We want to celebrate our classmates who are role models each and everyday! I know we have several of them!
2) Friday is one of my meetings in the morning... so I'm looking for 5B to prove themselves as respectful, responsible and enjoyable students for our substitute.

I'll know you checked the blog tonight if you come up with a short poem that celebrates Earth Day. It doesn't have to be amazing, just a little rhymer that will make the class think or smile! Write it down, so when I ask the class what day it is, you raise your hand and share your poem!

Ready or Not, Here Comes Puberty!

Well, my little baby cakes, you're growing up! To celebrate this excitement, you get to learn about PUBERTY tomorrow in science! Yippee! Don't worry, 5C survived it today, so you'll be just fine! But I can't wait to hear all you learned after science tomorrow!! Heeheheeee...

It sounded like you had quite a few assignments going on tonight and this week. Please remember how important it is for you to keep up the responsibility throughout the entire year and your final quarter of 5th grade.

Reminders...
Finishing book clubs and coffee talks
Scripts for commercials
Piece #4
Puberty assignments
Social Studies Flipbooks

If the weather cooperates this week, we'll use up more of our minutes earned from our MISIC testing. I'll know the you checked the blog tonight if you write down the following question and give it to me as you come in the room tomorrow. "How many steps did Isaiah take last night?"

The Not-So-Excited-Star

Colten is this week's star! He didn't seem as excited as you'd think he could/should be. However, here are our thoughts about him...

Colten is quiet in class sometimes. (Cody)
Colten likes football and is very funny when it comes to jokes. (Dylan)
Colten is extremely respectful to most people and when it comes to being serious, he does. (Adam)

Colten is respectful and responsible and caring. (Amanda)

Colten responds with, "Thank you, 5B, for all the compliments. I love them."
Hey 5b!!!!

Who's there Zach?
It's me!!!!
Okay go away.
Fine but 5b has been having a good couple weeks now Anna and u have to find the letter ''a'' and tomorrow tell Mrs. Sorenson how many you found in the poem.

Moving on from MISIC...

Well, it seems that 5th grade has done their fair share of learning this year! In each subject area, 5th graders have improved scores from 1 and 2 points up to 24 points in certain areas! That's amazing! We're so proud of everyone. Yes, I know some students stayed the same in some areas or even saw a drop in an area. Remember, MISIC is one test and it shows how you performed on one day. It does not define you as a person. All we ever ask any student...is to do his or her best. Remember, it's a lot about how much effort is put into it. We saw a lot of effort this week!

We have a few students that need to make up some missed MISIC tests from last week. We are planning on having any 5th grader make these up starting on Monday (tomorrow). So, if you are someone who missed any test, prepare for some MISIC time tomorrow.

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend in the sun! I know I did. It looks like we'll be having more fabulous weather to use up some of our recess/MISIC minutes this week at some point, too! Remind your families we have a 3-hour early out on Wednesday of this week. AND.. this is something most students will be happy to hear - Puberty class was supposed start tomorrow for some of you, but because of the MISIC schedule and early outs, it will begin NEXT Monday, April 19! A note will be coming home this week to your families! I'm sure you guys just can't WAIT!!!

I'll know you checked the blog tonight if you can figure out the code within this post. It is a sentence that lets you know something about our schedule tomorrow. The sentence has 7 words in it. Each word has its own color. Good luck! Jot down the sentence on a piece of paper and tape it to the CHALKBOARD in the morning!

Later Gators!!

MISIC MADNESS....

Well, the 5th graders surely started off well with their first MISIC test (reading) today! What an amazing amount of growth among all of our classes! So proud of everyone. Remember, tomorrow is another chance to show the growth you've made in math. Keep up the tremendous effort to prove to yourself how much you've learned!

We're still kinda dealing with making the best choices during our school day. A few students know about this from during our band/homeroom time today. Just remember, you are the only one who is in charge of YOU... So, give yourself some rules and guidelines to follow. Some of our 5B students struggle with this. Maybe you could even help each other out. If anyone in 5B (or families) have suggestions for how we could work together to do this, please share your ideas with the class. We'll have some homeroom time on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week due to the crazy MISIC madness of schedules!

I'll know you checked the blog tonight if you can get your parents to sign a note saying that you sang "The Barney Theme Song" to them. Bring the note to me with a smile in the morning! I can't wait to see who's up to this challenge!!! Rest up for another MISIC day! C U 2MORO!
