Another Amazing Day!!

Yes, yes, yes... What a super day AGAIN!!

This will be a short post tonight because your brains need a BREAK from me:)  You worked hard enough for one day!

I have your blog proof on the link below.  I read the ending of the chapter, "Tank Goes to School" to let you know what happens to Tank! We know how life turned out for Smokey the Cat, right?  AHH!!

Ok.. I have tried for almost an hour to get the recording on the blog of me reading the rest of the chapter!!  Grrrr!!!  Technology is SOOOO AWESOME when it WORKS, right?!

So, for blog proof..  Tell me WHICH of these 3 options YOU THINK happens to Tank....
(ONE of them IS TRUE!)

1)  Tank goes to Froggy Heaven :( after getting hit by the pickup truck going by
2)  Tank hitches a ride with the pickup truck going by
3)  Amanda Jane sees Joey and Rusty with Tank and chases after Tank so Joey loses him

???  Which will you choose???  We'll read RIGHT AFTER the Pledge:)

Nighty Night!

Totally Tubular Tuesday!!!!!

What a wonderful day 5B (and the other 5th grades) had today!  I don't know if it was just a super day for us or the Cadets Academy program has helped some of us keep some self-control!  But I have to say, I was one proud 5B Mama!  Keep up the amazing behaviors!!

Reminders...
Dream Team - You had math homework - some of you?
Wonderful Wackos - Possibly had some science homework?

Many of you said a family member would be joining us on Friday, October 2nd from 2:45 - 3:20 for the Book-It Kick Off!  YEH!!!  If you haven't chatted with your families yet, PLEASE do so.  They need time to see if they can schedule it in.

Cool Happenings!

In reading class, we showed AMAZING patience with technology issues!  Meeting with our Luther partners will be great when we get all of the kinks worked out.  I'm glad most of you got to meet/chat with them today.  For those who didn't, don't worry.  You will later this week!

Ok.. here's a really silly blog proof tonight.  With all of the focus you showed today in school, I think your brain needs a little break!  Well, the game below (click on the link after reading this) just might suck any knowledge or intelligence you have in your brain!!  It's truly a dumb game, with very little point or purpose, but it is extremely addicting and makes you feel SO happy when it pass the goal!

How to Play:  Drag the large hand across the screen to the left to knock down the inflatable monkey/gorilla!  (I don't think it will work on iPads... sorry).  If you knock down the monkey/gorilla at 200 miles per hour or faster, an awesome song comes on as  response!  I get so addicted!  Your proof will be to play the game, and tell me your highest score!  Play as many times or as long as your family lets you:)  Again... it's the dumbest game ever....but I LOVE IT!!

It was a....

What a GREAT way to start the week, 5B!  Wowser!  I saw SO MANY of you really T.H.I.N.K. before you spoke or acted today!  It was our "trial day" of recording "minors" to do some re-teaching during Cadets Academy.  A few of you needed some reminders, so tomorrow you'll hopefully work a eensy weensy bit harder at those behaviors!  If you haven't returned your blue Cadets Academy note yet, please have it signed and return BY WEDNESDAY to prove you have Cadet Pride:)

Other Reminders..
School Snacks:)  Yep!   A few students said they needed "proof" that it was ok to bring in a small snack to munch on during ST Math time.  This is true!  I noticed our little tummies are grumbling and growling by that time of day.  It should be small and HEALTHY and NOT going to fill you up before lunch!  Okey Dokey, Artichokies?!

Let's see!  That's about it!  Tomorrow is another "normal" day for everyone!  I'd LOVE to see the video that a few students were talking about from Mrs. Knobloch's reading class. So if we can get ourselves ready quickly in the morning, let's check that out!

Blog Proof!  As you come in on Tuesday morning, please WHISPER into my ear these goofy words.. "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom - Boogies in my nose will bloom!" Yep... I'm weird!  You know it!

Oh, and today, 5B... I was definitely Lovin' It, 5B!

No, I Didn't Forget This Time...

Hey, Ya'll!
I realize I caused quite a tizzy by not posting on the blog last Thursday night!  It got crazy in my world, so OOPS!  Thanks for understanding!  However, I am winding down from my weekend of travel plans, so I'm taking a minute to blog to you!

Last week was ONE CRAZY WEEK!  Wouldn't you agree?  Goodness, with all of that testing and coming off of a 3 day weekend, it was VERY tough to get into a routine.  Now, this week will be solid week of normal schedules and routines.  The ONLY 2 little "minor" changes will be on Thursday and Friday afternoons.

Heads Up for This Week!
Thursday:  We will have our Chip Shoppe Fundraiser kick-off to start filling up our Student Activity Fund that allows us to go on field trips, take special busses, bring in guest speaker and visitors, etc.  So, it's always great to get support from our families, friends and community when we start selling these goodies!

Don't forget about those prizes!!
Friday:  Don't forget also that we have invited 5th graders to bring in ONE family member or close friend of the family to help celebrate reading and kick-off the Book-It program this Friday, October 2nd from 2:45 - 3:20!  About 1/4 of the 5B kids said YES, they have somebody coming, about 1/4 of them said NO, their parents can't make it and the other 1/2 of our 5B class HAS NOT ASKED!  So, to be fair to your parents/grandparents/etc., be sure to give them plenty of notice. That's why our note went home LAST Tuesday!  Be sure to bring anything that would make this reading experience comfortable (healthy snack/drink, pillow, favorite book(s) from home, blanket to snuggle up with, etc.)
Ok.. ALSO...  This week marks the start of our...
We had a GREAT discussion on Friday about what we are seeing in our classrooms, hallways, playground, bathrooms, lunchroom, etc. that are examples and non-examples of Cadet Pride. The blue note that you took home Friday should remind you and explain to your families what we are doing.  Remember, the bottom portion of that blue note is DUE BY this WEDNESDAY.  Being a student with Cadet Pride means being responsible to return that signed BY the date written by your teachers:)

I'll be excited to celebrate with those students who continue to show or ones who have been working hard to improve their Cadet Pride on Friday!  I would LOVE it if our 5B classmates can be models for all of the 5th grade!  Let's be a true 5B Family ("We are family") and help each other out!

Ok..   Finally... Blog Proof! This week will be back to normal so you'll need to do these things to PROVE you checked the blog... (write them down if you sometimes forget...)
1) Attendance Balloon
2) Get out ALL materials for switching classes
3) Have out your Blue Cadets Academy Note (signed by parents) next to you
4) Visit this TodaysMeet Link (click here) and write YOUR name and what you did this weekend! Be sure it is your FIRST NAME ONLY, no silly nicknames, otherwise I won't know it's you! See my example.
**Don't do this now... WAIT until you come in Monday morning and post it then!  I'll know if you do it early because I have access to this link and when ANYBODY adds to it!  So, be honest, patient and wait until the morning!

Enjoy the rest of your fabulous Sunday weather! Don't forget we have P.E. on Monday!

Hello, Origami Carrie!!

5B was SO FORTUNATE today to have Aiden's mom, Carrie, come in to demonstrate how to make Origami creature bookmarks!  Aiden showed us one of his earlier this year and jumped at the chance to bring in his mom to show ALL of 5B how to make this super little guys!  The class had a BLAST using their own creativity to make their own monsters, animals, and minions!  I saw several students whip out their iPads to search samples of what they could make!  Such 21st Century learners!

As you can see from collages below..... it was a FABULOUS time!

Carrie and Aiden,  we are so appreciative of the time and supplies you shared with us!  I know many 5B students took another piece or 2 of the paper to show their families how to make them!  That's what I call being....  INSPIRED!!!

Today's MAPs testing seemed LONG, but the students did an excellent job being patient when the Internet wasn't working OR if the test wasn't starting for them OR if the test quit in the middle AND many other interruptions!  Again, please bring a small DRY snack OR gum to chew for alertness and good focus on Thursday (Reading MAPs) and Friday (Math MAPs) if you CHOOSE.

With a field trip last Friday, a 3 day weekend, and screwy schedules of testing this week, it's been a wee bit tough to get back into a routine and show that self-control.  Some students are fantastic MODELS for this.... Others are not putting forth their best efforts.  Let's work as a 5B Family (We are family....)  and figure this out!

Blog Proof??  Hmmmm...I'm thinking since our testing took SOOOO LONG today, I'd like to start testing as soon as we get attendance and pledge done.  So, I'll know you checked the blog IF you...
1) Pop your attendance balloon
2)  Grab your iPad (will be set up for testing so DON'T TOUCH ANY BUTTONS YET!!)
3) Put it upside down at your home and show your absolute FOCUS by meditating and thinking positive thoughts (Thoughts....not spoken out loud) about the MAPs Reading Test:)

Look at the picture below and how you should be meditating!

Tuesday, September 22, 2015

Short Post... Big Reminders!!

1)  MAPs Testing tomorrow - may bring a small DRY snack OR gum to keep you focused during testing time!

2)  Homework - Dream Team (math)  and Fantastic 5 (writing)

3)  Book-It Invitation! Be sure to notify your families to have plenty of time to see if it works!

4)  Goofy morning due to testing in the morning..... but back to regular routine of reading class in the afternoon!

5)  Blog Proof!  I'll know you checked the blog if you go to Aiden L. and ask him WHY his mom is coming today to present to our class?  Then come to ME, and I'll give you a HINT!

Happy Evenings!  OH, and be sure to explain to your families today HOW ON EARTH

Norman Borlaug

and the movie, Home,

have in common??  Could there be ANY connection between the two??

Look, Listen and Learn... That's What We Did!

5B,
You guys put so much time and effort into sharing all of the new information you learned from the Norman Borlaug field trip!  I know it took us a while to get it into a word cloud.  Thanks for your patience.  I spent another hour after school trying to get the words BIGGER.  It didn't work, so I searched for another word cloud site.  I found this one, ImageChef.com.  It was pretty cool!  If you have a computer at home (probably not an iPad, but you could see), test it out.  It was fun to turn it into shapes, change specific colors, etc.

Here's the link...  Click HERE!

Here are some pictures from our fun-filled day of learning...

As for the weekend... I'm SOOO jealous that you guys will have that extra day off.  I'll be at school working with other teachers from our school AND teachers from other districts about how you did on your FAST assessments and the upcoming MAPS we'll do this coming week.  Remember, the purpose of a test is a....

It's a chance to show off how your brain works and is able to take in information and problem solve the possible solutions.  We will have the tests in this order...

Tuesday:  No MAPS testing - regular morning for switching

You will need to get your
GAME FACE ON...
Wednesday:  Language MAPS testing (can bring a DRY, finger-food snack to have OR gum to chew during the test to help keep you focused)
Thursday:  Reading MAPS testing (snacks again)
Friday:  Math MAPS testing (snacks again)

Reminder...
I sent home a BRIGHT PINK note for your parents to choose the way they'd like me to be in contact with them.  Be SURE to bring that back on Tuesday with you.  I think I wrote "Monday" on the sheet, but I forgot I would not see you that day!  Oops!

I hope everyone has wonderful and restful weekends.  I'm sure I will have bumped into many of you at the Harvest Fest parade, around town, at the 5K Walk/Run, etc.  It's so fun to see you outside of school!  Here's one example of who I saw this weekend!!
See, we all really ARE a family!  Even on weekends we hang out!

Blog Proof...  We didn't share much AT ALL this week.  I'd like to be sure to do that this week.  Please write down the ONE thing that you'd like to share in class week about your weekend or anything exciting that's going on with you this weekend.  Write it down and be ready to share it on Tuesday!  I feel like this week flew by, barely chatting with anyone about what's happening in their lives... That's SO NOT COOL!  Chat soon...

Oh, and classroom jobs will rotate this week.  Be prepared for new jobs!  I also have yet ANOTHER pledge option!!

PERFECT PLANNER TIME TODAY!!!

Wowser, 5B!  The planner time was absolute PERFECTION!  I'm so impressed with the focus, LACK of blurting and self-control to discuss as much as we did!!  Woo-hoo, Baby!!

Tomorrow's Plan for the Borlaug Farm.... (the sessions we'll see)

1)  Food Packaging - helping out others who are hungry!
2) Insect Zoo!
3) Water Rocks!
4) Doughnuts into Spinning Wheels!
5) LUNCH - sack lunch from school:)
6) Norman's One-Room School House!
7) Iowa Floods!
8) Walking the Path (prairie fields)!
9) Renewable Future! (Huh? What's that???)

There will be other schools enjoying this exciting time:  Notre Dame, South-Winn, Osage, and more!

This is such an amazing opportunity that 5th graders get to experience.  How often do you get to visit the personal home of such an amazing person who changed the world?  Get to see where he went to school?  Walk on the same ground? See his boyhood carved initials?  Please know how lucky we all are to have such a generous, HUMANITARIAN represent Iowa and specifically Crestwood Schools!

Remember these items for the trip...
1) Layered clothing- not sure what 's going to happen with the rain!
2) Shoes you don't mind getting a bit dirty (no farm boots though.. we talked about stinky, chunky stuff - ewww!)
3) Hooded sweatshirt or an umbrella if you have one (label this please!)

**No cameras, phones, iPods, etc. for picture taking.  You just need to enjoy the day and LEARN something new.  I'll be the photographer!

I'll know you checked the blog if you come in the room and do your attendance balloon.  No need to get out ANY materials since we are NOT switching classes.  But here's what you need to do...
1) Look for this book on the coffee table.
2) Find the one with YOUR name on it (some people need to share)
3) Read the section that I have post-it note marked.
4) Use the "Did You Know?" paper to write down something NEW you learned about the "boy who changed the world."

There's so much to this man's life that is interesting!

Have great nights!  Thanks for a fabulous day!!

Crazy Day! Mrs. Sorenson is losing her memory!

5B,
Thanks for being so flexible today!  The morning seemed pretty regular and routine for everyone.  The blog checkers did an AMAZING job showing how to come in quietly, pop their balloons, get out materials and then get right to one of those apps/websites.  Totally impressed!

However... Mrs. Sorenson's brain must have been on overload because our FAST reading assessments were today (and I forgot to tell you about it...  oops), AND we had guidance with Mrs. McCabe and COMPLETELY forgot about that one!  Whoopsie Daisy!!

So, thanks again for just "going with the flow..."

Our FIRST DAY OF GROUP BAND was today!!  I didn't get a chance to ask any of the band members how it went.  Our afternoon went so quickly!  I'll be sure to ask about that in the morning.

I'm guessing it was a lot of expectations and how to's today.  I'm really proud of those students who chose to take on another responsibility and skill.  It will be a lot of work and practice!  Super students!!!

For those of you WHO ARE IN BAND...  Here's your blog proof.  Please watch the video below to see what we did while you all were becoming more musical!  We were trying the same thing!  I'll know you checked the blog because you'll whisper in my ear the MAIN WORDS they are saying in the video and do the MAIN ACTION they are doing!  Heheheheee... This will be good!

If you are NOT IN BAND, you already know about the little activity we did.  Your blog proof will be to come in and ACT OUT ONLY (No Sounds/Words/Noises AT ALL) the actions from the activity we did.  There are 3 of them.  So I should see you doing...
1) The main action
2) The action you do when you are "it"
3) The action you do when someone else is next to you and is "it"

That's It... But here are some reminders!
Otherwise, remember the math homework you have about getting your parents' signatures. Also, the Cadet Nation t-shirt orders are due.  Then, of course, Friday is our field trip to the Norman Borlaug farm!  Yeah!!!!

Peace out, Homeys!

More Help Coming from 5B Reading!

Another 12,110 grains of rice earned today with only about 15 students who worked on Free Rice today!!!  That is SUPER AMAZING!  Some of you saw today how many grains of rice actually make up ONE serving for a meal.  It was a bit surprising, wasn't it?  If you haven't seen that yet, don't worry, Mrs. K. will show you tomorrow when you meet with her.  So, so proud of such compassionate and caring students!

Today was da-BOMB with hallway lines!  We''re REALLY getting the hang of it!  AND today's morning routine was FAB!!!!  Our "squirrelly-ness" starts to come out more towards the afternoon, so we'll have to see how to conquer that, won't we?!

The MAJOR area some classmates need to work on is...
We have some repeat-offenders in this area!  We all have opinions and information to share at times, but it's only FAIR if we take turns sharing our thoughts.  This is where our DOMINOES really seem to start in.  Dominoes CAN be GREAT if what we are seeing is a positive and helpful action.  However, we are not seeing the dominoes work in this way.  Too often it's the blurting, off-task and unnecessary actions/speaking that turns into dominoes.

I'd love to make DOMINOES be a COMPLIMENT to our class.  Watch this short video clip of some AWESOMENESS with dominoes...

Ok, now wasn't that FREAKIN' AWESOME?!?!?!?  Now, that must have taken A LOT of work, effort and time to be so AWESOME!  So, that means in order to turn our dominoes into something AWESOME, we need MUCH MUCH MUCH more EFFORT from all of our 5B Family!  Right?!!  Show me that THIS is possible in our room!  I believe in our family.....  Do you??

For your blog proof, let's see if we can START the dominoes positively by doing THESE actions...
1) Pop attendance ballloon!
2) Get out materials for morning switches!
3) Use iPad to work on freerice.com OR ST Math app.
(ALL on your own... No need to chat, move around and change spots several times, etc.)

This will be a great way to take on the DOMINOES CHALLENGE!!

Have super evenings...  Oh, and remember to bring a stylus IF YOU HAVE ONE THAT WORKS...  (Right, Camden? :)

That thing touching the iPad.... that's a stylus for anyone who was confused on what it was:)
LOL!

Marvelous Monday It Was!!!

This was one of 5B's best day's all year!!  Hoot and Holler, Hoot and Holler, Hoot and Holler!  (I said this out loud in the classroom after school as I typed it, and I got some pretty weird looks and responses from teachers as they were walking by!)  I guess it works better if we're all saying it together, huh?!!  Our end of the day chattiness got a teeny tiny out of control, but about 99% of our day was FILLED with Cadet Pride!  SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO   PROUD of YOU!!!!  Keep it up!!

With Norman Borlaug's Farm field trip coming up this Friday, it's good to try to be inspired like he was when we get the chance!  Today, in reading class with me, I shared this video to our class:
NBC's News Report of Free.rice.com (click on the link to see it if you didn't get to yet!)

After the 21 students worked on this website (getting smarter and learning new vocabulary while earning grains of rice for hungry people)... Mrs. Kalvelage added up all of your totals for a whopping.....
13, 400 grains of rice!!!!!

What an accomplishment!  I'd LOVE to hear from you tomorrow and see if any of YOU at home, took time to learn a little and donate rice to those who are less fortunate!  You honestly could be saving a life today by getting a serving of rice!  Norman Borlaug would be so honored to know you have chosen to make a difference... Remember... YOU can be the kid that changed the world!

Reminders for the Week...
1) Cadet Nation order forms are due Thursday
2) Norman Borlaug Trip on Friday
3) **For Art WEDNESDAY, Mrs. Ortner was asking for anyone who had a STYLUS for their iPad to bring them with to art class.  You'll be doing some work that would be easier if you had one.  No worries if you don't!!
4) Keep thinking of ideas to help "make a difference" around the school or our community.  You gave some great ones in class.  Keep the ideas flowing.  Ask your families to help you out.

For proof of checking the blog...  I'd like you to get your materials out RIGHT AWAY on Tuesday morning, pop your attendance balloon, of course... and THEN ask ME for the Norman Borlaug Rap!  I'll give you a piece of paper and have you take out your headphones/earbuds and listen to it.  It was a rap written by kids from Africa to show their appreciation of all that Norman Borlaug has done for our world!!  It's really cool!

Continue to have a Marvelous Monday evening!  Catch ya' later gators!!

Freaky, Frazzled and FAST Friday!!

Hey, 5B!
I'm not sure about you, but I thought Friday FLEW by!  It was kind of a frazzled day with so many different events going on and such a goofy schedule!  In general, 5B did a great job of adapting to the day!  The watermelon at the end was a bit wild, but I'll forgive you as long as you remember to T.H.I.N.K. about it:)

We saw the many pics from Elyse's Photography Session on the bouncy houses, but here are a few from the other activities!
Power of Words can BUILD up a nation again!  Remember 9-11.
Picnic lunch to celebrate healthy foods and lifestyles!
K - 12 Assembly...  We thought it was going to be a Fitness Assembly.
It turned out to be more of a September 11th Remembrance.

It was a great day, but I can be honest and say I'm excited to get back into a bit of a routine.  It was a little too much for one day, for me!  But there are some great memories and fun had!

Rest up for a FULL 5 day week this week...  I hope you read the note about our field trip coming us THIS FRIDAY to the Norman Borlaug Farm.  Go over it with your families, too!

I'll know you checked the blog this weekend if you can see this picture....  Describe to me what the LAST picture was on the blog today.  We will start using these on Monday morning!  I'll explain more, but I want you to have in your mind what I'll be chatting about Monday morning before switching classes!

Happy Sundays, Everyone!  See you soon!!

THINKING Thursday!

YEP!  The bubbles are starting to get under control!!  Yeah!! So proud of 5B today!  I wanted to make sure EVERYONE heard that comment before we left today.  I really feel like today was showing MAJOR improvement with self-control and using the T.H.I.N.K. strategy when making decisions!  Woo-hoo, babies!!

Britain!
I thought today's writing activity showed this well, too!  The sculptures below are some artists' masterpieces after showing how art and writing really have the same process when you go through all of the steps!  It took major effort to not touch the supplies until it was the right time!  Bravo!

Landen!

Spencer!
Finally, I want to celebrate the reading class that I meet with!  Be sure to tell your families about your "college buddy" you met today!  It's rare that 5th graders get personal college-aged reading experts and buddies to chat and read with!  What a great first Skype session with them!  I think we'll have a blast getting to know them better and seeing how they feel about reading, too!
Daniel meeting Megan!

Tara and Joey meeting Rachel!
Alrighty then!!  The week has really flown by, with no school on Monday!  Tomorrow will be a blast, I think! Be ready to get yourself "fit" to celebrate our Fall Fitness Day!  Maybe even get yourself stretched out for some extra classroom exercises!

Your blog proof tonight will be to come in the room, pop your attendance balloon, and find a spot in the room to do some kind of exercise IN PLACE.  It could be running in place, jumping jacks, sit ups (ugh, not me!), push-ups (nope, not me either), one of Fee-Fee's moves, etc.  However, you DON'T SPEAK to ANYONE.  This will be the BIGGEST proof to me.  If you are TALKING while exercising, I'll know you did NOT fully check the blog!

And 1, And 2, And 1, And 2, Keep Going... :)
Get rested for a fun-filled day of being PHYSICALLY FIT!

Wednesday, September 9, 2015

Sorry It's LATE!!!!

If you check the blog, I'll know because either you checked earlier and there was no blog before 6:30 p.m. (Oops, my fault!!)

OR

You'll see this very plain post and have to tell me....

"There was no blog proof"...
Be sure to whisper it in my ear so others don't hear!

I'm VERY impressed with all of the blog checkers every night!  This may be the best class yet for how many of you are taking the extra effort to check the blog!

Also, if you really enjoyed the Mary Doodles video today, I'm posting it down below if you want to watch it again or want to show it to your parents!

Remember what your reward will be?!!  I've got them ready to hand out as an extra morning breakfast treat!  (But Joey's birthday cookies will also be enjoyed by all!)

Nighty Night!

Tuesday, September 8, 2015

Oh, My, Oh, My....

This was our day....

YIKES!!!  We had a TOUGH Tuesday!  Although our little 5B cherubs LOOKED amazing for school pictures, the impulsive behaviors and chatting was out of control!  YIKES, YIKES, YIKES!

Your blog proof tonight will be involving your parents/family.  Can you please explain to them what the bubbles represent for our class?  Explain the activity we did to help us understand why we refer to bubbles on a day like today.  Your blog proof should be a note from your mom, dad, or someone who is "in charge"  at home stating that you've explained what we mean by bubbles!  Also, be sure they include what "bubbles" you are struggling with (and remember, we are a 5B Family, so we understand that mistakes happen.  However, we need to actually fix them, not keep repeating them).

Just to be clear, 5B, this is not an "I'm in trouble note" at all.  I just want to be sure that families are completely aware and can help you make the best choices possible to learn!

Poor Sawyer... Happy Birthday!  Due to the bubbles and behaviors, he went through a lightning speed birthday dance at the VERY end of the day!  Thanks for the yummy treats, Bud!!  HOPEFULLY, tomorrow will be a WONDERFUL Wednesday so we can celebrate ANOTHER birthday without the craziness that happened to dear Sawyer!

So, I'm thinking the message below is one to read over a few times before tomorrow's class time...
So, let's answer this question,
"Can we FIX IT?"

Take it from Bob, the Builder....

Homework!
Math:  Remember any math homework you may have tonight!
Reading:  International Reading Day - Get those door hangers hung up and read 20 minutes every day/night!
Extra:  Also, if you can get your parents, grandparents, aunts or uncles, etc. to go out and VOTE for their choice of school board members, I'll have SOMETHING SPECIAL for YOU!  It's at the fair grounds in the Featherlite building.  Proof will be that little sticker they get OR a note from them stating they DID, in fact, go and vote!

Tomorrow is ALREADY 1/2 way through the week! Yeehaw, baby!!

Monday, September 7, 2015

Happy Labor Day!

Oh, wait!  Maybe when we say, "Happy Labor Day", we don't mean this?????  Hmm...  So confusing!

OK... Maybe THIS is what we mean by, "Happy Labor Day"......

Yeah, that makes more sense!  We are celebrating all of the different kinds of jobs (labor) that our citizens can do to "live the American Dream" that hard work will pay off and take you places!  Ok.. yep, that makes more sense than celebrating women who went into labor...  (Although, that's a pretty amazing job, too!)  Heheheheee!!

I sure hope everyone had a super and relaxing 3 day weekend!  I know you all had some kind plans you were looking forward to... CAMPING seemed to be the biggest....  but family visits, swimming, hanging with friends, just chillin' at home, and all sorts of others.  I didn't get to do the river boat thing I was hoping to do, but we DID visit a place I've never been to before....
If your families haven't done this before, you SHOULD!  It was really interesting, a bit spooky:) and a bit strange!  Check out the link below to find out more about this nearby attractions!

I know it seems like a LONG time ago, but last Friday's STEM activity showed amazing thinking and problem-solving skills from you!  I only have pictures of those students that were in our 5B classroom, but I'm sure all of the designs that were tried were inventive and could have worked with more time, more materials and more thinking.  Here are the ones from our classroom.  It's easy to see which group won:)

This week is a short one but BUSY, BUSY, BUSY!!  Here are some reminders for the week!
Tuesday, Sept. 8!
#1 Be sure to PESTER your parents to VOTE for the candidates they want!  Click here for the list of candidates for each district.
If you can get your parents to VOTE, and bring in that STICKER that proves it, I'll supply YOU with a special reward on Wednesday!! Yepperoosie!

#2 Say Cheese!  Don't forget to get some rest, wear that "special outfit", fix your hair the way you want it and be ready for your 5th grade school pictures!  Our pictures are RIGHT before lunch.  So we'll go from our "photo sessions" out for lunch!  How fabulous, darlings!

Wednesday, Sept. 9!
First Parent-Teacher meeting of the year!  It's being revived again, and we are EXTREMELY excited to get more parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. involved.  Please consider attending at the Discovery Center (library) @6:30 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 11!
Fall Fitness Day!  Thanks for those of you who have returned your Volunteer Notes.  I have 1 volunteer so far to help supervise the Bouncy Houses from 8:45 - 9:30.  I'd take more if you are free!  If you have volunteered to help, please stop by the main office at about 8:30 on Friday morning for instructions! Thanks!

Alrighty!  That should just about do it for reminders!  I will KNOW you checked the blog this weekend if you whisper in my ear as you come in on Tuesday morning something that you enjoyed doing this weekend.  It could be ANYTHING!  I'm excited to see my "babies" again!  It's been 3 whole days!  You've probably even GROWN a little!  See you in the morning!  Smiling and ready for school pictures!!
