What a Wednesday!
Today kinda went by in a blur. I miss seeing my 5B Baby Cakes all morning. The new Smart Board was fun to test out this morning, even though some students were a little daring with their drawings!!!! You know who you are! Hopefully we'll get more time to work at it/on it tomorrow. Today went by so fast that we didn't get a chance to share our "Warm Fuzzies" from the character counts cards AND I didn't get a picture of all of our crazy socks!! Grr... I just wish I could see my 5B darlings more than I do. Well, what are we to do? Nothing, I guess. I just wanted you to know that I do miss you and wish we had more "extra" time together. Thanks for a great day today, 5B. There were SEVERAL character counts cards, so we'll share them right away in the morning. Don't forget to be voting for your Star of the Week. Votes must be in by the end of the day Thursday!
I found a few games online and thought it might be fun to try on the Smart Board tomorrow. I'll check them out more and you can see what you think in the morning! Have a great night. Remember - red and/or purple for caring & citizenship tomorrow, and see what you have for clothes donations!

EXCITING NEWS!!!
After 5B students left today, a rather large box was delivered to our room. I'll give you a few hints about its contents...
1) it's educational (yeah, I know, boring!!)
2) it's heavy
3) it's hanging on our classroom wall
4) it's NOT dumb!!!
Any guesses?? If you didn't figure it out, I guess you will have to wait until tomorrow to see!! But I have to say that I had a difficult time staying on task as it was being put up this afternoon!! Yeh!!!
Other news...hmmm... Well, today was a quick but good day. Kids, the "character" you built today is something I'll be looking for especially this week since we are celebrating Character Counts week. Don't forget to wear green and/or sunglasses tomorrow. If you read the note clearly, your sunglasses can be worn TO school and AT RECESS. I wanted to point that out in case some of you didn't read closely enough.
The rest of the week follows a normal schedule, and I have to say that last week was one of 5B's best weeks. I think it was due to a normal schedule and structure. So, keep up the fabulous attitudes. Some of us may need to put more effort into our indivdual goals, specifically playing with items and looking at the speaker, but as a whole, 5B is quite impressive!! Way to go, Top Dogs!!!
The results for the last poll ended up 100% for Reece's Peanut Butter Cups. Check out the next poll. See you tomorrow...Sweet dreams!!

Marvelous Monday!
What a marvelous day for 5B. In all classes, compliments were shared about 5B's behaviors (except lining up in Soc. St. and Sci. classes I guess). Not much else to report on. 5B, remember to be thinking about the Star of the Week. We forgot to chat about that at all today - busy, busy, busy!
If you're looking for a little giggle, check out the link below to visit Black Dog's Riddles. I checked a few out and played some of the games at the bottom. Just a little harmless fun!

Also, I changed the Poll Question. So check it out and vote what you think. Thanks again for a marvelous day, 5B. Let's have 4 more just like it!!

Ready for Normal???
What's normal?? We don't even know what that is anymore, do we 5B? This week doesn't have any "extra" events scheduled at this point! Yeehaw!! That is quite exciting for the teachers. I'm not sure kids would agree with that, but at least we can end the 1st quarter with a few days of classes, right?
5B, I wanted to remind you that you have until Tuesday evening to sell items for the ChipShoppe fundraiser. Envelopes and money should be brought in by Wednesday morning. If you know you are done selling, then bring in your envelopes on Monday or Tuesday of this week. Thanks for all of the help putting money in our school's piggy bank. We'll be taking some fun field trips this year, and it's all thanks to your efforts on this fundraiser!!
Kids, make sure to share with your families the new event coming to our literacy class on Fridays from October 30th through December 11th!! Hopefully, you're gathering book ideas and maybe even some costume ideas for your turn to be a....RADICAL READER!!!!! I can't wait to see and hear you when it's your turn! Remember reading is supposed to be fun!! Here's an idea - when you read for your 20 minutes for the Read It and Eat It, pick the book you may want to do for Radical Reader! You'll get 2 things done at the same time!!!
It looks like we have 20 votes on our Would You Rather Poll. It closes in about 3 hours. So, if you don't get a chance to vote, make sure you vote on the next on. I'll keep a new idea going each week. Have a great last few hours of your weekend, and I'll see you bright and early for a full and regular Monday! Yippee!! I'll know you checked the blog this weekend if you whisper these words to me in the morning, "It's just another manic Monday."

Super Day in 5B!
I don't know if it's because we're tired on Mondays or what, but 5B did a great job listening and showing respectful behaviors today! Keep it up, my TOP DOGS..ruff, ruff, ruff. Hopefully you remembered your homework for both math and social studies today. Also, check out those books in the book orders since we didn't get a chance to go through them very much.
Not a lot to report today, but just thought I'd let you know how proud I am of all of your efforts for being such great students and classmates to each other!
I'll know you checked the blog tonight if you do me a nice but nasty little favor. A dear teacher friend of mine has a birthday tomorrow. She doesn't want to make it a big deal, but I think it's important to celebrate birthdays! So, my favor is this... whenever you see Mrs. Kerian tomorrow, say this phrase to her, "40 and still lookin' fine!" But of course, say it with some pizzazz!!! She'll be mad at me, but she'll know I'm doing it because I care!! Can't wait to see how she reacts! Have a good night!

It's Been a While...
Wow, I can't believe the week flew by so quickly. My family was quite busy last week each night, and I'm sure other families have all sorts of activities pulling them in different directions. Hopefully, my post won't be too late for kids to check tonight.
First of all, I wanted to thank all of the families who could stop in on Friday to read with the kids. Obviously as a literacy teacher, this is an area I hope to instill in my students. It was great to see parents and kids reading together and doing it in a relaxed setting. Of course, the food probably helped, too! So, I just wanted families to know how much I appreciate the support in viewing reading as an important part of every student's day. Keep it up!!
Well, I thought with MISIC testing and foggy weather over, the kids would get back into a pretty normal schedule. WRONG!! This upcoming week has 3 goofy days in it. Monday and Tuesday are okay, but don't forget to participate in the homecoming dress-up days. A pink letter came home on Friday, but here's a reminder: Monday - Favorite Sport/College Team Jersey Day (any sports clothing you like is just fine!), Tuesday - Pink Day to support fight vs. cancer, Wednesday - Hat Day, Thursday - Athletic Clothes Day (for Fall Fitness Day), and Friday - Blue/White Day (support Cadets!).
Like I said, Monday and Tuesday will be okay, but on Wednesday there's an assembly for character education from 9:30 - 10:15. On Thursday, the High School Food and Fitness team is hosting their 1st Annual Fall Fitness Day. Students will participate in 4 different stations of physical activity to support healthy living. This event takes place from 2:20 - 3:00. Then of course Friday is an 3-hour early out due to homecoming. There will be a Pep Assembly in the morning to gear up our school spirit. Don't forget the homecoming parade at 2:30!
So, we'll do our best to keep some structure and routine this week, but as you can see, there are some definite obstacles in our way. However, each of our extra events does have a good reason behind it.
Kids, keep up the ghostbusting from last week. I'm impressed even in the first 2 days of improved behaviors. When you put your mind to something, you sure can make a difference!! I'll know you checked the blog this weekend if you spread this message around to other 5th grade students in the morning: (From now on when it rains during morning recess, students are expected to sit directly in front of a locker. They can chat with friends next to them or choose to read from their book bins. But no games will be allowed anymore.) I'll explain more about this in the morning, but this will give you a heads-up before you walk in the building.
Have a good night's rest and we'll see you bright and early!! Don't forget to read your 20 minutes tonight (if you haven't already)!
