Well, 5B, I hope you've been enjoying your days off from school. I know I have. I've been extremely busy visiting family and traveling, and even though I'm tired, it's a lot of fun. We've been out of town for a bit, but I'm back in town now to celebrate the coming of a new year, 2010!! If you're able to comment at all, I'd love to hear/see what any of my 5B Babycakes have been up to over the break.
I've had some free time to continue reading the Twilight series. I absolutely LOVED the first book when I read it in November! Then, Santa gave me New Moon for Christmas, and I couldn't stop reading it, so I finished that one in 3 days! One night, I read for 4 hours straight. I guess my Read It and Eat It calendar would be filled up!! I'm hoping to see the movie before I come back from break, but I don't know if that will happen. I was trying to take a break before reading the third book, Eclipse, so I could see the movie for New Moon first, but I couldn't do it. I started reading it today. It's like I'm addicted to it! If anyone has read any of these, I would LOVE to talk to people about them.
I'll check for comments each day and then make a few more posts before I see you again "next year"! Keep checking the blog. I'm hoping to give you a heads-up if we plan to have our talent show when we come back. I'll chat with the other 5th grade teachers, and let you know what to plan for!
Enjoy the rest of your vacation! Hopefully, you've found some time to read something that you enjoy as much as I have with the Twilight books. Take care!

Get Ready for your Last Full Week of School in 2009!
Hey, all my 5B Sweethearts! Hope this weekend was as fun and relaxing as your 2 1/2 day break you had in the middle of last week! By the looks of the weather forecast, we can "hopefully" plan on a full week of school this week. I know I'm looking forward to seeing you all more than just a couple of days like last week.
A few things I wanted to point out to you...
1)Hopefully by tonight, you can see an updated slideshow of photos. Try to pick yourself out. It goes back to sharing writing pieces #1 to ITBS to the parent visit! Enjoy seeing yourself shine!!
2) I FINALLY figured out a problem I was having with our blog today. At the end of each post I write (or if you are the weekly bloggers, too), there is a place for you or your family to post a comment on what the blog is covering or just a comment about school in general. I've been trying to figure out why our blog wasn't letting us do this all year, but Santa must have given me a Christmas gift early. What a guy!?? Anyway, just wanted you to know that you and/or your parents are welcome to write a comment to me or to the class if they wish. Of course, make sure your comments are appropriate for all of our eyes to see! OK??? I'm excited to see what our 5B students and families may have to share with us.
Lastly, remember to be working on the big projects do this week... your explorer biography is due Monday (if you haven't handed it in yet), writing piece #2 is due Friday (NO exceptions), your explorer/vocab test is on Tuesday for social studies, book club reading should be finished on Monday in class, and of course, coloring and drawing for the computer project should be done daily. Also, I'm guessing you will have a math test by the end of this week or early next week over division. So make sure you are practicing that at home, too.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday, and share a comment with us! See you Monday morning!!

What a WEEK??!!
Hey there, my 5B Angels!
I've missed you. I know it's fun to have a few days off for time with family and fun in the snow, but I still miss seeing my babycakes! As far as I know, we are scheduled for a regular day of school tomorrow. Still watch in the morning on the TV or the school's website, but from what I've heard, the plan is for a regular day of school on Friday. That's the good news!! Now the bad news....well, maybe some of you will think this is more good news... I have a meeting Friday morning that was scheduled awhile ago. So, I won't see my little munchkins until lunch time. I'm not sure who the sub is, but I am sure you'll all do your best to get back on track from a crazy week of no school.
If you're a Radical Reader, don't plan on worrying about it for tomorrow. I'm not sure everyone was ready for it anyway. So, we'll plan our last round of Radical Readers for next week sometime.
Hopefully, you took some time to work on your Explore Biography poster for Mrs. Halverson. I'm not sure what her plan is, but everyone should have had ENOUGH TIME to complete the poster. Also, remember, Mrs. Kuhn wanted something from you the next time she sees you for word study. I can't remember what that is, but you guys do, I think!:)
Get some rest for your 2nd and last day of school for this week. Be good tomorrow morning, and I'll see you all at lunch. Oh, don't forget to look for the new ornaments. There are 3 new ones - Wed., Thurs., and Friday!!

Hard-Workers Last Week...Keep It Up!!
5B, I know there are a lot of activities going on in school and outside of school right now, and I'm impressed with everyone's behavior and responsibility this week. What a great way to kick off the month of December! I'm happy you made it through your trial week of sitting in your "chosen" spots. Looks like you're able to hang out by your buds for the rest of the month! Just keep acting as respectful as you did last week!
Thought I'd do a little reminder on homework and school projects happening in the next few weeks here, in case you let it slip... I'm expecting 5B to put 100% effort into your work like always, even if there are extra activities going on...
Social Studies: Biography on explorer due THIS FRIDAY, study vocab for upcoming quiz
Math: Focus on division - keep practicing, test will be in a few weeks
Reading: Book club reading, preparing for Think Fights, supposed to be done by THIS FRIDAY, last group of Radical Readers THIS FRIDAY
Writing: Piece #2 due Friday, December 18, coloring and drawing for computer project done daily
Also, reminders about extras... don't forget to record on your calendar for Read It and Eat It. Bring in a stocking if you haven't yet for Monday. Get thinking/practicing for ideas for the talent show. I'm trying to come up with something myself, too! Keep your eyes out for the new ornament on Monday!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend! See you in the morning!

Terrific Tuesday!!
Another great day to keep the week going strong, 5B!! Wow! I'm so proud of everyone. During the homeroom/band time, a few groups were a bit chatty, but not bad. Remember, if you would like to stay in these groups until Christmas, make sure to work on that self-control.
A couple updates... I posted a new survey about whose group may have the toughest time with chatting. I'd love to see what the class thinks. I'm even going to vote this time!
Also, hopefully those people who handed in their Read It & Eat Its remembered to bring home their Casey's pizza coupon. We forgot to put that on the planner today.
Make sure to tell Moms and Dads about the holiday talent show!!! I am always so amazed with the fun tricks and talents people choose. And don't FREAK OUT about this. It's just for fun and to enjoy each other. You saw our example today in class, so OBVIOUSLY you don't have to be amazing!! Just entertain us with something.
Some of you wanted that snow flake website from today, so I thought I'd just add a link on the blog for it. Click on the link, and it will take you to the home page. http://snowflakes.barkleyus.com/
Have a good night... remember to do some "coloring" tonight. I put up the 2nd ornament, so keep your eyes out for it. I'm guessing EVERYONE will be able to find this one:)
