Hats Off to Dr. Seuss!!

Hey, there my little 5B Angels... Don't forget to list the titles of books you've enjoyed reading on the Cat in the Hat hats provided for you today in literacy. I'd like to see how many we can put up tomorrow already!! I'll have to work on mine as well! Also, bring in any books you have by Dr. Seuss!

If you checked the blog tonight, I'll know because you will fill in the blanks to this rhyme.

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, ___ ___.

Write the missing words on a post-it with your name on it. Put it in my hand in the morning. If you don't know it, then do a little research with Dr. Seuss books!

Another Wacky Week

Hey, there 5B Munchkins! Hope you had a good weekend. I'm sorry I didn't make it to the basketball tournament on Saturday for a few of you who asked me. We are doing a remodeling job in our bathroom, so I wasn't able to get away. Hope things turned out well for everyone! I guess I'll find out on Monday at school.

We'll only have 3 "normal" days this week, unless there is bad weather on its way. Remember the following events:
1) Wednesday, Feb. 24 - 3-hour early out
2) Friday, Feb. 26 - Play at UNI, bring own lunch and dress up for the occasion

You also have a social studies test this week, and your writing piece #3 is due published next Friday, March 5. And, if you're looking for something more, remember you can help research ideas for our Wii idea. So, anything you can find, let me know I'd be happy to take your suggestions!

If you checked the blog this weekend, do me a favor and follow these directions. Use your finger or a marker to write your FIRST and MIDDLE name anywhere on the Smartboard when you come in. Don't tell anyone why or what you are doing. Do it quickly without any explanation.

Thanks!! We'll see who is checking the blog!!

Wednesday Workout!

Wow! 2 whole days of class in a row?? Can it be true?? I am now remembering what it is like to teach something one day, and the students ACTUALLY remember what we learned the next day!! Yeah!!

Make sure you study for your social studies quiz for tomorrow, and start looking through your closet for something to wear to our "theater trip." Heehehee

To see if you checked the blog tonight, here's your task. Right when you come in the classroom in the morning, turn your chair around backwards and sit at so you are facing out. Don't talk to anyone or say anything. Just sit there waiting for me to notice. I'm sure your classmates will wonder what you are doing, but I'll know you were just being responsible by checking the blog!!

Another Blog Checking Experiment

OK, if you checked the blog today or tonight sometime, I have a job for you to do tomorrow. AFTER attendance is taken, BEFORE we do The Pledge, put your head down on your desk as if you are in trouble for something. Stay that way until I whisper something in your ear. Don't tell anyone WHAT or WHY you're doing this. I'm seeing who is really checking the blog each night.
We'll see if you remember by morning time!! Hope your afternoon is fun and relaxing! Hope to see you tomorrow sometime!! But, who knows?!

Later Gators...

Happy Presidents' Day, Happy Start of the Olympics, Happy Valentine's Day and Happy Sunny Days!!

Well, what a busy weekend and start of a new week!? With all of the excitement going on around the world, I wanted to make sure to thank all my 5B Babycakes and their families for making the special effort to be at their conferences last Thursday. 5B students did WONDERFUL with their student-led conference. I think most parents felt that way as well! Only 3 students need to complete their conferences. Then we'll ALL be done and have survived!

Later on today or tonight, there should be a new slideshow of pictures to view. Make sure to check it out since there are some fun photos of our 5th Grade Box Social!! What a blast!!

This week looks to be COMPLETELY normal....wait, what does normal mean again?? I don't think we've had a "normal" or "regular" week since BEFORE Christmas vacation!!! Isn't that crazy??!! So, I'm excited to have a full week of classes to get back into the swing of things.

However, next week, there are 2 special activites. On Wednesday, February 24, there is a 3-hour early out and on Friday, February 26, 3rd-5th graders go to UNI to the Gallagher Bluedorn Theater for a play about science! I have always enjoyed these plays. Should be lots of fun. And don't forget we get to take chartered busses for a relaxing ride!!

Have a great rest of your weekend. Burn off all of that sugar from your Valentine's treats, and we'll see ya'll tomorrow! If you checked the blog today or tonight sometime, put a post-it note with your name on it on my desk right away in the morning. I'm doing a little experiment to see who is checking the blog regularly!! Thanks!

Conferences Rescheduled...

Hey, there kiddos.. As you read this blog, please have your parents look it over as well so they have a little bit of notice about the new conference date. You'll find this out on the school website, and probably on the news, but I wanted to give you and your families a heads up.

I'm not sure what is going on Tuesday or Wednesday with upcoming weather, but the school's plan for rescheduling conferences is to have a 3-hour out on Thursday, February 11. Then we would begin conferences shortly after dismissal until the normal cut off time at 8:00 pm. So, if your conference was scheduled for Thursday, you can come at your normal time (or change if you need to for some reason), but over half of 5B families had conferences scheduled for Monday (tonight).

So, you have a couple options:
1) Your family can send a note, give me a call, or email me to say what time between 12:45 and 7:40 pm you'll be coming. This would be helpful but not necessary.
or
2) You can just show up at whatever time works for you, your family, your brothers/sisters, etc.

Because 5B is running Student-Led Conferences, it is a much more flexible schedule than in the fall. It is very possible there will be more than 1 conference being held in the classroom at the same time. This should not be a problem though, since there are several spots in the room to keep your conference individual and private.

So, use my contact numbers on the side of the blog if you want to tell me an approximate time you'll be stopping by. Otherwise, I can just wait and see you Thursday afternoon or evening. But please remember, 5B students are running these conferences, so they will need to be present for the conference.

OK, done with conference stuff. Kids, I was hoping somebody checked out glogster a bit more and can tell us something cool about it. I may have a little time to play this evening.

Take care and who knows when we'll be together again!! But, keep these events in mind...
1) math test Thurs. (possibly)
2) social studies test this week (possibly)
3) Box Social on Thursday - decorated box, 1 healthy snack, 1 junky snack, 1 drink - nothing homemade or peanut related.. See Ya!!

Brandon Meets 5B!

We were lucky to have Maranda back at the start of the week, but then Brandon joined us on Tuesday. He seems to be fitting in just fine. It seems he has a lot of connections with the boys in our 5th grade in that he loves sports...football, wrestling and basketball! Hopefully, Brandon is feeling welcomed and is figuring things out with the help of Adam at his side. So glad you're a part of our class, Brandon.!

Other news... hmmm.. Well, 5th graders did an amazing job at their music program on Monday night. So, congrats to you and know I'm so proud of everyone. The crowd loved you! I know that meant a busy start to the week, so thanks for your hard work the last couple of days.

An area 5B knows they need to work on is chatting during work time. Each day this week has required reminders about talking while working or instead of working. Today required 4 reminders in about 5 minutes. 5B, I know what hard-working, respectful, responsible students I have in my homeroom. So, think about what you are doing to help or hurt your education. We'll work through this slump together, but I can only remind you how to act. It's your job to actually do it. OK? My hopes are high for Thursday and Friday.

Of course, Friday is our Big Blast. So, I'm sure everyone will want to show that 5th graders (and all the other Crestwood Cadets) deserve a party and fun and can show self-control in an exciting situation!! I'm pumped as well. I'm hoping to compete against at least of few of my 5Bers!

OK.. here are a few dates to keep in mind coming up...
Friday, Feb. 5 - Big Blast and Limo Rides in the afternoon
Monday, Feb. 8 - 1-hour early out for Student-Led Conferences!! (Yeh!!)
Thursday, Feb. 11 - Box Social Festivity with all 5th graders
Thursday, Feb. 11 - 1 hour early out for Student-Led Conferences (Yeh!!)
Friday, February 12 - NO SCHOOL
Monday, February 15 - SCHOOL IN SESSION - Make-up day

That's all for tonight... Have a good one and see ya'll Thursday!
