Feeling Torn....

Hey there, 5B,
I'm sorry today ended kinda of in a low mood. It's kind of a game of tug of war right now with our behaviors. I feel like our classroom actions and respect have been WONDERFUL for the past few weeks, and I'm so happy to see this kind of display back from my little sweethearts. It's just frustrating to see so many of you being trustworthy in the classroom with your teachers, but when you are given an opportunity to prove yourself in ALL situations, you don't necessarily choose the "right decision."

I'd like to stay positive with you guys, and I'd love some suggestions on what to do to improve our "when no one's watching choices." So, if you or your parents have any ideas, please post a comment to help us be the "best" 5B we can - in all situations presented to us.

5B, I'll know you checked the blog if come up with a suggestion written on a piece of paper (with your name of it) that helps us to continue and extend our fabulous behaviors OUTSIDE of the classroom with ANYONE who we work with. Come to me at the door, say "Ding" pointing to your head like you have an idea and hand me the paper. I'll read it and you may come in... We'll see if we put ALL of our heads together, we can make a change! Thanks for your help and know that you're still my babycakes no matter what kind of day we have:)

Short Week Ahead

Hey there my little cherubs (that's a fancy word for kids!),

Hope your weekend was fabulous. The sun always seems to make everything feel happier, doesn't it?! Don't forget to check the 2 posts before this one. There may be a little something to do...(hint hint).

I just wanted to remind you about this week's 1-hour early out on Thursday and no school on Friday for a little spring break. Also, you probably already heard about this, but Thursday will be a special day for us. There will be some activities planned for you to get to know some of your future classmates for 6th grade. Students from Ridgeway Elementary will be spending part of the day with us for a classroom event, outdoor fun and a picnic lunch outside! What a super way to get ready for spring break, eh??!

Hope all went well over your weekends... Don't forget to get homework done for Monday. I know there is a Coffee Talk group each day this week, so make sure to get your pages read from your book club book. Also, keep in mind we have 3 writing activities to work on: Wanted Poster, Eb and Linc story and Piece #4.

See you 2moro!!

We're On a ROLL in 5B!!

Yeehaw!! We are kickin' butt right now with respect, responsibility and transitions!! 5B is BACK! We have had such an amazing 2 weeks! It must be the fresh spring air that has given everyone a new outlook on behavior and attitudes!

Since we're studying how to improve our word choices in writing class, here's your chance to prove you checked the blog tonight. Come up with 5 adjectives to describe the following noun: class. Example: respectful and responsible But, you can't use my 2 examples. You need to think up 5 adjectives to describe OUR class! You can use your brain, a book thesaurus or a computer thesaurus. Write them on a piece of paper and read them off to me as you come in the room tomorrow morning! Can't wait to hear how you describe 5B!!

Oh, if anyone has seen Kelsey's planner, could you please get it to her. She's been missing it since last Friday afternoon. Thanks for your help!

Also, be ready to learn our new hallway song tomorrow!! I'll be looking for a few students to lead it as we walk down the halls! Get your singing voices prepared!

Wusabi chooses...

If you notice the colored letters in this message, it will reveal the Wusabi's choice for our Life Long Learner this week! So, keep your eyes a-working! However, you will have to UNSCRAMBLE them to figure it out for sure! Good luck!

Today was a fun (dead word), excellent way to relax from the hard work demonstrated throughout 3rd quarter. Hopefully you enjoyed the breakfast pizza (if you chose to eat it) and the 5th grade movie today. We're proud of so many responsible, motivated students!

Remember, tomorrow (Wed.) is the early out, and Friday is the Open House. Right now, we only have 4 students that have said their families are coming. That would be too bad if you couldn't make it to show off all of what you do with technology and other subjects! Please encourage your families to come and enjoy the fun, food and learning!

See everyone tomorrow!

Make Me Proud

5B, thanks for an amazing week back to being yourselves!! I'm quite proud of you. Here is your next test...with me being gone on Monday again, I will be EXTRA impressed and proud of 2 days in a row of excellent behaviors. I'm excited to bring you something on Tuesday IF I see an amazing report again from your substitute. So, I'll guess we'll see what Tuesday brings us, huh?

Don't forget to remind your families about the early out on Wednesday, March 17 (St. Patrick's Day) and the Open House on Friday, March 19 from 5 - 7 pm. Be thinking about what you want to show off to your families when you come!

I'll know you checked the blog this weekend if you figure out this code. It's a clue to what I may be bringing to you on Tuesday. Follow this code 1=A, 2=B, 3=C and so on. Figure out the message and you'll have an idea what Tuesday could bring. Write the phrase on a piece of paper, put your name on it and put it in the 5B HOMEWORK HAND-IN TRAY this time.

First word: 23, 8, 1, 20
2nd word: 23, 9, 12,12
3rd word: 9, 20
4th word: 20, 1, 19, 20, 5
Final word: 12, 9,11, 5 ?

Terrific Thursday

So far today was really good. There was a social studies assignment and it was Worksheet about Action and reaction and think of ideas for your cover of the Boston Tea Party. For Science there is a worksheet about the 2nd layer both sides . Read 20 min. tonight. There was a math test today. Next Friday we have the open house night.
We will know you checked the blog if you wear crazy socks and if you don't have that then just wear different colored socks. We will know if did if you come to Adam or Kaylie and show one of us tomorrow.

Excellent Day with a Few Reminders!

I was quite impressed with 5B today! Of course, reminders are always helpful, so I'll keep doing what I can to assist 5B with respectful behaviors when lining up, transitioning, staying on task and so on! But in general, I feel like 5B showed me a wonderful improvement today! Yippee Ky-aye!!

No big news and or anything tonight. Here's quite a challenge for you though. If you checked the blog tonight AND can handle being a bit different, here's what you should do tomorrow. If it's ok with your parents, wear your shirt backwards to school tomorrow. If people ask you or say something to you about it, just act like you don't know what they are talking about. (Don't worry, I'll let you change it back before we have library at 8:45, so you won't be wearing it all day long. Let's see how many of you are up for the challenge!! Remember, keep this to yourself. I'm most impressed with those students who check the blog daily!

Can't wait to see what you are wearing tomorrow!

Let's Start This Week off Right!

Hey, there my little Starlings!!

I'm hoping this week will start off fresh and respectful. We ended the week quite well when coming up with qualities to look for in our 5B Star Student of the Week. As you left on Friday, many of you said that you thought you were capable of being a STAR. I agree completely. Let's see you shine throughout this week to prove it.

There are no "extra" events planned for this week at this time. However, next week has a 3-hour early out (Wed., March 17), and the Spring Open House is on Friday, March 19 from 5 - 7 pm. Thanks for those of you who offered to help out that night. At this point, there is no need for anyone to do anything special that night. We don't want anyone just sitting there staring at the wall. So, just come and enjoy the night of food and fun!

I'll know that you checked the blog this weekend if you can count the number of times the word "star" shows up in any of the words in this post (not counting the ones in quotation marks). Draw the correct # of "stars" on a piece of paper with your name on it. Put it on my desk in the morning. We'll see how many of you are ready for stardom!
We'll see how many stars enter our room Monday morning! Don't forget the title!

It's a Rollercoaster in 5B Right Now...

5B,
I'm hoping you could share with your families the ups and downs we're having at school the past 2 weeks. I'm feeling like we are not trying our hardest and doing our best to show what type of students we know how to be. Behaviors like chatting when/in place of working, not listening to the directions, taking longer breaks than needed, talking instead of getting out materials for the next class, and so on. As you can see, our list goes on. I'm sure you'll see a reflection of these behaviors on 3rd quarter report cards. Remember, you are in charge of fixing these behaviors. I can help you by reminding you, but you are ultimately the ones to make it happen. I'd love to see 5B back on track again.

We have some time to improve, but since you are all already capable of being responsible, respectful, caring, trustworthy and thoughtful students, it shouldn't take too long to see the change??!! Right??

I'll know you checked the blog tonight because you'll be ready for Deals on Wheels to visit our classroom TOMORROW!!! (That's Friday) Remember, there are pens, pencils, folders, visors, seat cushions and more. If you're interested, bring some change to buy some Cadet items! After the pledge, raise your hand and ask me "When is Deals on Wheels coming?" I'll answer you but then raise your hand again and ask it again. Keep asking until I tell the class the time of day Deals on Wheels is coming. (Oh, it's 11:00 am towards the beginning of literacy, just so you know!!)

Glad My 5B Angels Are Back!

I appreciate seeing my little darlings again. Thanks for showing me what you are truly capable of, 5B. I hope you enjoyed celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday with the website, cake and story creating. I think we made him proud. If you get a free minute or two tonight, maybe you can check out more on http://www.seussville.com/.

I'll know you checked the blog tonight if you figure out the code within this message. All of the white letters up above, when put together, spell out a phrase. It's kinda weird. I'll give you a hint at least. There should be 5 words in your phrase. You don't need to scramble them. If written in order, you should figure out the code. I'd like you to write it down on a post-it and place in the 5B hand in tray. Make sure your name is on it, too!

Good luck...and see you in the morning!

Tomorrow's a Special Day!!

I'm so glad to be back after my spout of illness. It's no fun being sick, that is for sure. After getting our mistakes squared away and finding a way to fix them, I'm excited for a new week to begin! Thanks for making today proof how responsible and respectful 5B can and should be.

I'll know you checked the blog tonight if you show some excitement for tomorrow's celebration. After the pledge tomorrow, I'll say a greeting to each student. If you checked the blog, you'll know the greeting because it will have to do with Dr. Seuss and/or his birthday. Your job is to find a word to rhyme with the one I say to you last.
Ex:
(Mrs. Sorenson says) It's Dr. Seuss's birthday today.
(Your response) I like to play! or pray! or I like the month of May.

Don't tell anyone the secret. We'll just see who checks the blog regularly or not!!
Be ready to celebrate tomorrow!! It's a big day!
