Terrific Tuesday!

Wow, 5B.... You are definitely starting the week off on the right foot, aren't you?!  Let's keep it up!  Now, remember last week was a break-through with the end of the Wild Wednesdays!  The words the sub used were "exceptional and fabuloso!"  So, let's keep the reputation up, shall we?!  Also, I can't wait to see whose class gets to do the make-over!!!  The teachers were talking today after school, and we might have something to add to the reward for ONLY those turn in their slips WEDNESDAY and have met the goal!

Also, I have a great activity that Isaiah and I were playing tonight!  I'll see how well 5th graders can play this game!  So, I'll keep it short, but your proof for checking the blog will be to ask me "So, what's Isaiah's game?"  I'll show everyone the game after we taking attendance and do pledge!

Reminders for Parents...
Valentine Carnation Orders -  due by Monday, Feb. 6
Book Orders - due by Monday, Feb. 6

Check out the right side of the blog. There is a survey. I'm curious how 5B will answer it.

Marvelous Monday!

Hey, there, Chickybabies!
What a great day with super attitudes, effort and Cadet Pride today!  Let's keep it going strong for the rest of the week.  I added the Stick Man website and Black & White Photo to the right side of the blog, along with a new Comic Strip website. They are all under "Some Fun New Stuff".

Here are few reminders for you for the week...
Tuesday - band (don't forget instruments)
Tuesday - Skyping at lunch with Senorita Rachel (I think??)
Tuesday - Last night for reading for Book-It!! Will Mrs. Sorenson be getting a new look from 5B?  Or will it be some other lucky teacher?!
Wednesday - Early Out!  Also, some of you need to finish your book club reading, Edmodo and think pages!  Keep track of your pages!
Wednesday - Book-It Slips DUE!  Remember, it only counts if you bring in your sheet TODAY!!!  So, be responsible and get your parents' signature!
Thursday???  Nada Mucho??
Friday - Social Studies Test - Use Study Buddy to prepare this week!

Ok, I'll know checked the blog if you visit the new Comic Strip website and either print off a comic you make OR email me at ksorenson@howard-winn.k12.ia.us to show me that you've completed one!  Remember, be creative every day and have fun!

Wow...It's Been A While, Huh?

I feel like it's been forever since I last posted!  I guess it's been a busy but short week.  It's weird that tomorrow is already Friday.  Remember, tomorrow is "Hats Off for a Caring Cause" to collect money for the family who had a fire.  If you want to help them out, wear a hat or just enjoy in the fun, bring $1 (or more if your family wishes) and a hat to wear for the day.  I'm curious what kinds of hats I'll be seeing.  I'm wondering if Jarrett will wear that funky, green spaghetti one again??!!

A Round of Applause Goes to You For...
1) Such great report from the sub on Wednesday - "exceptional and fabuloso" are high expectations to keep for yourselves!
2) Amazingly deep thinking in literacy class the last few days...I'm glad to see such sophisticated thoughts being shared!  I can tell you know what reading is!!!!
3) The morning routine has improved almost back to normal.  I'm seeing super respect from classmates and responsibility to raise hands when sharing.

Something to work on...
We could still make some improvements at the end of the day for the planner.  There's an awful lot of chatting going on there.  So, try to help each other out by politely reminding them to quiet down when others are talking.  This also would be helpful durning check-ins in literacy.  You know what I'm talking about :-{ Thanks for your help!

Other reminders....
*WHAT'S DUE FRIDAY??????  Compare and Contrast Essay - Published...no excuses accepted.  You've had over a week to work on this.  If I don't feel it is your best effort and published work, I will be having you do it over...  So, please take this seriously....
*Study for Science
*American Revolution Test next Thursday - use Study Buddy

I'll know you checked the blog if you come up with a short but fun little Friday cheer!  If you REALLY want to impress me, you'll stand up on your seat AFTER the pledge.  When I call on you, share your Friday cheer with the class with the best enthusiasm and spirit you can manage!  I have a little something for those who go OUT of THEIR WAY with effort on this!  Can't wait to see what you have the courage to do!

Later Gators!

Isaiah feels....
Well, some of 5B wishes came true on Friday!  For the rest of you that did NOT want to miss school, sorry.  At least you probably enjoyed some relaxation time.  I saw that some of you have been working on your writing pieces (Animoto)...YIPPEE!!  That's awesome to see people working on writing even when they don't HAVE to!  :D

This is how Isaiah feels about being home an extra day with his mama and dada!  Can you make an inference (read between the lines) on how he feels without me telling you??  This will be your proof that you checked the blog.  Tell me how Isaiah felt about the extra days home.

Just wanted to welcome you back with full force on a Monday.  We haven't had a Monday since we've been back to school yet, so be prepared for a pretty long day ahead, remember we have no specials :C

Keep this in mind for Monday (hopefully I actually see you... I'm seeing some more goofy weather for tonight/tomorrow):
Don't Forget

5th Grade Remembers MLK, Jr.

5B,
If you get a chance, share our Animoto presentation with your families. I'm thinking they'll be impressed with your serious words and deep understanding of what Martin Luther King, Jr. has done to change history. Click on the link below to share it with your families. This is how I'll know you checked the blog. Have a parent or older sibling write a note saying what they thought of our class project.

Welcome Back After a Long Weekend...

Hey, there, my 5B Babycakes,
I'm hoping everyone got a chance to do some extra sleeping in, relaxation, fun in the snow, etc. over the weekend.  I had a busy weekend traveling to Dubuque, playing in the snow with Isaiah and then swimming at the fitness center.  However, Monday I was at school working (grrrr...) while you guys were all home enjoying the day off!!  Lucky!  Oh, well, we'll all be back at it on Tuesday, so there!

Just a few reminders for this week...
Tuesday - band people, don't forget instruments
Tuesday - homework due for writing class for me - commas in dates... if you haven't started it yet, then let's "get 'er done" before Tuesday please

That's about it for this week.  It's a pretty basic week for us.

So, I'll let you get back to your weekend.  But, I'll know you checked the blog this weekend if you click on this link (Click Here to Prove You Checked the Blog) and be able to tell me when you walk in the room Tuesday morning the REAL reason we take the day off and celebrate in January.  Watch the video and you'll know for sure.

See you soon,
~Mrs. Sorenson

Wild Wednesday:{

I can definitely tell there is a winter storm coming because the energy in the room was quite high today.  Wouldn't you agree, 5B?  Hmm???  I'd say we can handle some "oops" days once in a while, so I forgive you and know you can show better self-control with the blurting and chatting on Thursday, right?!  Good!

Don't forget tomorrow is our nutrition day, so if you have your calendars for Kaitlyn, bring them in.  I'm not sure what your reward is.  I guess we'll have to see!

In Literacy on Thursday we'll be talking about how punctuation can truly save lives.  I'll know you checked the blog if you can give me an example of how this is true.  It seems a little crazy that a period, comma, question mark, etc. could actually save someone's life.  But it happened!  So, simple write down on a post-it note 1 way punctuation could save a life!  If you give me a reason, you'll be a true life-saver! (Hint about your possible prize for checking the blog!)

See you Thursday..with less chatting, more self-control and some life-saving ideas!

Magnificent Monday!

Another great day in the land of 5B...  Nobody seemed too disappointed about report cards or scores, so that's also a bonus for our day.  Let's continue this model behavior.  I am also proud to share that I didn't have any reason to have to remind anyone in our class about "bully behavior" from our chat last Friday.  I know 5B is a caring and respectful class. I also can tell by the "bucket fillers" I've been seeing lately.  Keep  it up, darlings!

I've been hearing Isaiah yell in the background, "POOP", so this may very well be a short post tonight!  You'll have to ask me if he made it happen again on Tuesday when I see you.  Lots of excitement happens in our house in the evenings, ya know!?

No other big reminders other than to return your report card envelopes as soon as you can.  Remember NOT to leave the report card in it.. That's for YOU!

I'll know you checked the blog tonight if you check out the picture I added.  It was made using a website I think you guys will like.  I'll show it to you in the morning quickly before we switch classes.  Just tell me who the picture is of, and that's how I'll know you checked the blog.  See you Tuesday!

Peace Out (as Isaiah says),
Mrs. Sorenson

Ready or Not, Here Come Report Cards!

You'll have some special papers waiting for you on your desk when you come in Monday morning!  There are several pages, so look through them carefully.  Of course, we'll go over them together for any questions, but go ahead and look over them.  I believe most people will be quite proud of their grades (A, B, C's) and scores (4, 3, 2, 1's).  I know I am impressed.  I also feel like the Social/Work Habit scores increased in 2nd quarter.  It was a great quarter, and it flew by!  (idiom - doy)

I hope everyone was able to enjoy the awesome whether this weekend!  I spent most of it outdoors with Isaiah.  He got to play with his remote control jeep and ride his bike (well, attempted to ride his tricycle - not very successfully though) while I had to pick up _________ from the backyard.  And boy was there LOTS of it!!??    This will be your proof to show checked the blog.  As you come in on Monday, whisper the word you think goes in the blank.  Whether you are right or wrong, I'll still know you checked the blog.  So, what do you think I had to pick up in my backyard??  Hmm..

A heads up for the week...
1.  Starting back in with Reading Rounds/Check-Ins - have a Read to Self book ready!
2.  Study those homophone spelling words for a test on Friday!
3.  Kaitlyn, the nutritionist, will be coming Thursday of this week again!  Wonder what she'll bring us this time (If you have your calendar from her, bring that in before Thursday).
4.  More pretty awesome weather!  But be careful of muddy areas.  You may want to bring extra shoes for recess time.
5.  Of course, keep up reading for the Book-It Challenge...  Maybe even start looking for special clothes or hair styles you want think what give me a "new look".

Phenomenal Start to 2012 in 5B!!!

Brag, brag, brag is all I can think of to start this blog post.  5B has had such an amazing start back to school after winter break.  You must have all had enough time to relax and get re-engergized for more learning because what I'm seeing from each of you is nuttin' but Cadet Pride!  Let's keep it going and show how quickly we can earn 200 pink slips for our grade!  I bet we could do it by next week at this time, don't you?!

Again, I'm so proud of all of the Book-It slips that came in the first day after break!  Hopefully those people enjoyed your doughnuts today.  Just wait until Friday when our Group 2 winners get to enjoy their prize!  Oh, and I think you'll enjoy the next Book-It challenge for January.  Visit this link to get a hint about what the prize will be:) (Click here)  Just close the advertisement that comes up first to start playing.

I'll know you checked the blog tonight if you write down 1 way to show Cadet Pride at school.  It could be in any of these places:  classroom, hallway, bathroom, lunchroom, or playground.  Show it to me as you come in.  We will be chatting about his right away Thursday morning!
