Germs Have Taken Over Our 5B Angels....

So, it seems 5B has more germs than we want in it.  I know kids are taking medication to help with the whooping cough in our school (and classroom), but I'm not sure how to get rid of the "chatty bug" again. Boy, oh, boy, did it take over in our classroom today or what?!!  Each of you had great suggestions for "disinfecting" our classroom of this terrible contagious bug that seems to be in the air of our lovely 5B home...  I'm concerned that just talking about how to "fix it" won't be enough.  So, please make sure our actions on Tuesday show how hard we are trying to fight this "chatty bug".

I'll be sending note home to remind you, but make sure to let your families know you'll need a bottle of water to refresh yourselves on Friday with the Track and Field Day Activities.  Were you practicing at recess??  Sure hope so!  Remember....5B has NEVER taken on this win before.... Maybe you'll be the ones to change 5B History!!  (No pressure though...heheheheeee)

This will be a short one tonight.  I'll know you checked the blog if you give a name to this nasty little germ creature that has infected our room with these symptoms:  non-stop chatting, off task chatting and slow moving transitions.   Please give this germ its proper name, so we can get rid of it for good!
Be creative, too!  I won't accept, "The talking germ."  Too simple..get deeper!

A Sack Load of Sickees!

Goodness me, 5B.  It seems the nasty little germs were ready to grab us whether we washed our hands or not:{  I heard there were 7 students (8 including me) gone on Friday.  Luckily, I wasn't sick.  It was Isaiah...AGAIN!  I'm sorry to those of you are still feeling under the weather (that was an idiom- Doy!).  I bet our 5B Family seemed pretty teeny tiny on Friday!

With so many of you gone on Friday, we'll have to be doing some catch-up to see what we need to do on Monday.  Also, some people need to finish/make-up their MISIC tests still.  I got our ice cream on Saturday!  It barely fits in my freezer.  I'd like to have it Monday afternoon, but we'll see who's all back and what MISIC needs to be made up still.  My goal is for anyone who is back on Monday, can make up their MISIC right away so we can get our ice cream scoops figured out.  But I guess we'll have to see.

A BIG question I had about Friday was WHO WON the Team Competition??  I'd love to get an email or comment on the blog telling me which team won!!  It's been driving me up the wall to wait for these results!  So... I'd LOVE to hear from ANYONE!!  Please:)  Pretty Please:)  With sugar on top??:)

Reminders:  Field trip permission notes (due last Friday), Finish MISIC/add up recess minutes/eat ice cream, Track and Field Day THIS Friday

I'll know you checked the blog if you can find at least 1 IDIOM I used in the blog.  (You can't use under the weather though, since I already pointed that out to you.  I used a few, but you just need to write down 1 of them and show it to me in the morning!  Keep your eyes peeled and don't spill the beans when you find one!

Already Friday?? OMG!

Hey, 5B,
I looked back to see when my last post was.  I couldn't believe how quickly the week flew by.  I can't wait to see what the results are for 2 topics on Friday... #1) Winning Team for this week!  #2) MISIC recess minutes!

It's amazing to see how much each of you has grown in one or all of the subject areas of math, reading or writing!  You should be SOOOOOO proud of yourselves.  I know I am so happy for you. Make sure to share the great news with your families!

Reminders for Friday
*Puberty Quiz over ALL Vocabulary (Heheheheee)
*Math Page 248 due for Mrs. Wilson
*Mr. Nussbaum Website Page due for me
*Simple Machines Packet due for Mrs. Halverson
*Field Trip Permission Note due for me (thanks for the parent
volunteers - I've contacted those who I "drew out" of a hat)
*Guidance with Mrs. McCabe - class discussions
*Team Competition - Who will be this week's champs?!

I'll know you checked the blog if you tell me/write down what your parents chose to do about the note from the nurse on Thursday.  We sure hope everyone stays healthy or gets something to help prevent from getting sick.  I even called the doctor and am on medicine (just in case)!  So, let me know what your family chose to do as your proof!  See you in the morning!

Ready for a Wacky Week?!!

Hey, there, ya'll!  I hope your weekend was as relaxing as mine!  I LOVED Sunday's weather!  It makes me think it might be SPRING AGAIN sometime!
Remember, we have a goofy schedule pretty much EVERY day this week.
Here's the schedule again:
Monday:  Math MISIC @ 10:30 (No switching classes)
Tuesday:  Reading MISIC @ 1:15 (No switching classes)
Wednesday:  3 Hour Early Out (SWITCHING - no literacy)
Thursday:  Language MISIC @ 1:15 (No switching classes)
Friday:  Guidance in Social Studies and Field Trip Notes Due

**Also, if your parent is interested in helping with the Field Trip to St. Paul on May 11, make sure I get a note, call, email, etc. from them ASAP.  Remember, we can only bring 2 from 5B, so I'll have to be drawing from a hat to find out who the lucky chaperones will be.

Also, remember you are allowed to bring yourself a small, single serving snack on those days we have MISIC tests.  And to the Scorpions (Winners this week!!), you are able to bring an extra snack because of your reward choice for the week!

I'll know you checked the blog this weekend if you walk INTO the classroom BACKWARDS on Monday morning.  This will remind us what a WACKY week we have in store!  Have a good rest of your Sunday, and see you soon!  Get rest for some KNOWLEDGE PROVING, ICE CREAM EARNING and RECESS GAINING on Monday at 10:30!

April Showers BETTER BRING May Flowers!

My goodness, we've had some rain today, haven't we?!  I got drenched leaving school today and picking up Isaiah.  Of course, Isaiah thought standing out in the rain was HILARIOUS!  I kept dragging him towards the house, but he just kept saying, "NO, Mama!  Stay outside! Get all wet!"  WEIRD!!

This has been a pretty "off" week for us.  Even though it was a normal week for us, 5B has had a tough time staying focused and limiting the chatting.  We've had such a great year, so I know every once in a while we'll need to have some reminders.  However, we do have over a month of school left and MUCH to still do, including MISIC tests starting next week.  So, let's make sure to get back on track and end the year as FABULOUSLY as we've started and continued it!  OK???????????????

Here's the goofiness for next week's schedule:
Monday:  MISIC
Tuesday:  MISIC and Band
Wednesday:  Bus Evac Drill
                     3-Hour Early Out
Thursday:  MISIC
Friday:  Normal (whatever that means!)

I'll know you checked the blog if you asked me, "So what crazy plan do you have for MISIC, Mrs. Sorenson?"

Awesome Tuesday!

Wow, this was quite the fabulous day for 5B!  It's sounds like I'll have to fight to get you back from science class based on how much Mrs. Halverson bragged about your wonderful behaviors!  Well, maybe I won't make you miss Puberty class tomorrow. That would be a shame if you couldn't be a part of that, right?! :)

I don't think any of the teams picked up their Blue Team Tickets today during planners today, so make sure you claim those.  I know each team is doing a great job of earning tickets, but maybe you'll want to chat with your team members and come up with something special to earn points because it's gonna be another tight race again!  A team lunch or recess activity might just give your team the extra points it needs to come out ahead of the other teams!!!  (hint hint!!)

We have Nutrition on Thursday of this week!  I can't wait to see what you get to learn and try this time.

Have a great night!  I'll know you checked the blog if you make up a short cheer about puberty!  I'll be happy to award you well for your efforts in this task!  It can rhyme or it can just be full of spirit!  Let's see who is brave enough to cheer for puberty!

Ready for a Full Week Ahead??

It's going to feel like a long week this week, since we have 5 full days!  We haven't had that in a while!  We seemed a little tired and chatty the last few days of last week.  Let's see if we can get that figured out right away on Monday!

I wanted to remind the Wild Kids team that they get to bring a drink to class each day this week.  This might be just enough of a reminder to the other teams that they want to make sure the Wild Kids DON'T win again!  I'm so impressed with all of the teams.  We definitely have NOT had as many white tickets, and the totals were CRAZY last Friday!  Let's see if we all can make a new record!!!

OK... I'll know you checked the blog if you come in and start DRAWING what you did this weekend.  Keep drawing until Luis starts attendance (Yes, I'm keeping the same jobs as last week since it was short one.)  I'll come around and look at those blog checkers' pictures.

Have a great rest of your weekend...and see you soon!

Isaiah learns to PEDAL!!!!!!

I'll keep this one short and sweet!  Isaiah FINALLY learned to pedal his bike!!!  That's quite exciting news in our house!  I'll know you checked the blog if you come in like normal, do attendance and pledge like normal, but after the pledge you stand at you spot, look VERY excited, and when I say, "So, what's going on?"  You SCREAM, full of excitement, "ISAIAH LEARNED TO PEDAL!!!"

Welcome to 5B, Jonathon!

Well, I know I was surprised to find out we had a new (well, kind of new....at least this year) student this morning as 5B walked in the classroom!  I don't know about any of the 5B'ers?!  I think 5B made him quite comfortable, so thanks my little 5B Angels for making that happen!

The Cadet Pride today was OVERFLOWING!  Whoa, baby!  You'll have to check out the Team Competition board in the morning! Whooeeee, the points are adding up!  Many of you offered to help your team out by doing extra jobs for me during band time!  I think your teammates will be quite happy and thankful for your extra effort!  I can't wait to see what will happen this week! I have a new song for the winners for this week!  Let's see how they jam to this week's music, heheheheeee....

Like I said early, awesome day!  Keep it up.  Oh, and thanks to Payton's family for the doughnuts again!  We surely love your donations to our class!!  I'll know you checked the blog if you come in the room, start doing stretches on the floor.  Don't chat with anyone, tell anyone what you're doing or stop stretching until I come up to you and tell you to stop.  How much you get "into the mood" of stretching, will determine your points I award you:)

See you tomorrow for a half day!  Sorry....you're stuck with me all morning...no switching:(  And Jonathon, if you are reading this, I'm glad to have you be a part of our 5B Family!  You seem to fit in PERFECTLY!

Peace Out, Homeys,
Mrs. Sorenson

Are You Ready to Come Back?

I hope all my 5B Angels had another great 4-day weekend.  I'm guessing many of you got some kind of Easter or spring treats over the break!  Isaiah got a small basket from the Easter Bunny, but he keeps saying that Lincoln ate some of his treats.  He's been yelling at Lincoln ever since, poor dog.  And for the record, Lincoln didn't eat any of his treats.  The Easter Bunny just didn't leave a lot of candy for an almost 3 year old:)

It shouldn't be too bad coming back Tuesday since we have a special (P.E.) in the morning and our switching is shorter because of band (don't forget instruments).  Then, on Wednesday, April 11, we have a 3-hour early out already!  Talk about being nice to you, huh?!

This week, we'll be getting into our new unit in LEAD 21, The Kingdom of Plants.   Since we're starting a new unit, that means you won't have any TESTS this week!  YIPPEE!!!  I found a cool website also to go along with the theme of plants.  We'll be getting back into the "Check-Ins" though for literacy... we've kinda been off of the routine for a while with the Inquiry Projects.  I have to say though..... THEY WERE AWESOME (and funny, too, Joe, Kirsten, Payton, Brooklyn, Brendan, heeheheheheeee).

OK, I'll let you go.  I'll know you checked the blog if you bring 2 pieces of candy to school to munch on (1 for the morning, 1 for the afternoon) for Tuesday.  All you have to do is secretly show me what you have in your hand as you come in Tuesday morning.  (Just remember, nothing with peanuts/peanut butter)

Oh, and may the competition continue as the IDK's enjoy their "special lunches" and the other teams BRING IT ON to show their STUFF!!!  Let's see how we start off the week!  See you soon!

There is a DEFINITE Winning Team This Week!!

5B,
I took down all of the points/tickets after school and couldn't help myself!  I counted them up and saw that there is a team that is going to be quite happy!  What was also great to see was that there were not many white slips this week at all compared to last week.  Way to improve!  So, everybody, put on your dancing shoes, in case your the team!

Just like last week, we'll do attendance, then your teams can get together and count up your points!  I'm excited to see what reward is chosen this time!

I'll know you checked the blog if decode the message within the blog.  Write it down on a piece of paper and show it to me Thursday morning!  One more day and then it's a 4 day weekend!  Yippee!

Another Short Week Ahead...

Hey, there, Chickee-babies!

I'll keep it short and sweet.
Now, isn't that a special treat?

Today is a major day of jokes,
I hope you don't mind if I take a few pokes!

I couldn't just skip a day full of laughter,
so we'll celebrate April 1st on the day after.

Don't stress too much about what's coming for you.
Other 5B'ers have survived it, well, except for a few.

So join me tomorrow for a day full of fun.
My rhyme is running out, so I guess I'm done:)

I'll know you checked the blog this weekend if you meet me at the door and say,"What is waiting for me at my desk?"

Here are a few reminders for this week:
Monday
Book-It Reward for those who meet the goal and have it on MONDAY!  No calls home, no "Can I bring it tomorrow?"... So, if you want the reward, have it with you, signed:)
Inquiry Items should be brought in for recording on Monday.  I know a few groups needed dressy clothes, dirt maybe??, Legos??, etc.  Don't let your group down by forgetting your "share."

Tuesday
Music Program practice is in the afternoon.  Remind your families you need to be at the High School no later than 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3rd for your ONE and ONLY music program.  I'd love to get a class picture that night!
Effort Points Auction will be on Tuesday morning!  Keep track of your effort points so you can "bid" for the item(s) you'd like!

Wednesday - Nada for now!

Thursday - Last day of the week!  No school on Friday or Monday for Easter (spring) break!  Don't you just love these 4 day weeks and weekends??
