I Barely Saw You???

Hey, 5B,
I really actually

today!!  With such a goofy, crazy extra special schedule, it was weird not really getting to be "with you" today:(  So, tomorrow, we'll be back to normal.  I'm guessing some of you missed going to Mrs. Suckow's room, too, for math and science.  No worries... we'll get you back on track:)

I'll keep it short tonight.  Although you all had a free afternoon, we (the teachers) were working away learning some new information to use with all you of sweet little cherubs!  Hey, cherub could be our Word of the Day if you aren't sure what it means!

I'll know you checked the blog if you come right in, mark yourself on the Attendance board, and find a spot on the FLOOR to meditate.  Don't say anything to anyone else, close your eyes, find the "Inner You"and wait for me to ask you for the secret word....

The secret word is...... pickle face!

Don't tell anyone else though!  This is a blog-checking test for responsible, effort-filled students!

Another Great Day!

Ugh, 5B, this is getting kind of boring... You are just too wonderful of a class!

In all seriousness, you have been just showing me the most amazing Cadet Pride, fantastic transitions and respect!  So impressed and proud to be CONNECTED (ah, I think I beat you at this strategy!!!) to such a fabulous group of students and learners!

Tomorrow will be another test of your Cadet Pride.  We have 3, yep 3, no really, 3  exploratory classes tomorrow:
Our FIRST Guidance Class with Mrs. McCabe
Make-up Music Class with Mr. Bieber (since we'll miss it on Friday due to our field trip)
Tech Class with Mrs. Vandervort (our regular Wed. class)

On top of this, we eat earlier (at 11:40) since it's a 3-hour early out!  Whoa, baby!  We will also try to read from Swear to Howdy (our class book for those who can't seem to remember the name of it) and a bit more Cadet Time with our passions and wonders!  Of course, we'll have to take on the 60 for 60 Challenge from our astronaut friend, too!

This will definitely keep us on our toes and be out of our normal routine, so I'm curious to see if you can handle this type of WILD and WACKY WEDNESDAY schedule!

I'll know you checked the blog if you tell me WHICH part of our WILD and WACKY WEDNESDAY you are most excited about.  Go on your email RIGHT when you come in and send me an email of your answer!  I'll have my email address on the white board.  Our mail is NOT set up on our iPads, so you'll need to go to the Howard-Winn School Web Page.  It's on the 5B Blog if you can't find it:)

And this picture is just to celebrate a little exercise we had in class today!  Congrats to our winners of Freeze Dance:  Ethan and Cam!

Magnificent Monday!

5B continues to rock the world of Crestwood Elementary!  You go, 5B!  With today's amazing day of listening, super Cadet Pride with our iPads for the first time this year and the fabulous Read to Self time, I will give you a VERY short post tonight!

Get it?!  A short post!?!!  Yep...It's a Monday!

I'll know you checked the blog if you come in and tell me WHO chose what you were wearing for the school picture today? (Did you get to choose, your mom, dad, grandma, older sister or brother?)  It's always fun to see what picture day brings out in our families:)

Gorgeous Weekend!!!

Wowser!  I sure hope everyone got a chance to get outside and enjoy this weekend weather!  OMG!  I hope the weather continues for us this week! Loving it!

I'm guessing some of 5B was a wee bit tired by Friday night!  With all of the excitement on Friday with the bouncy houses, dancing, extra fitness activities and some attending the first home football game, I bet you were whooped!  I know I was!

Here are some pics JUST from Friday!  As you can see, we keep it hoppin' in 5B!

Cadet Time - Finding Your Passions...
Literacy - Using Strategies to Read Unfamiliar Text (and Images)...

Practicing Reading with Someone = ENJOYMENT!
See?  Look at those smiles!!

Fueling Up for Fitness Assembly - Learning School Dance to "Timber"!

Working Out AND Having Fun!  Whose 5B tush could this be?
(The one in the blue is a 5B family member).

Our first 5B Family Picture!  Yes, the students Mrs. Sorenson
is laying on were willing to let me squish them!  I did ask first:)
So, as you can see, we had quite the eventful day on Friday!  Great memories!

This coming week is even BUSIER!  Look at the list to remind you of all of the extra events:
Monday:  Library Class - Remember books!  National Literacy Day! More Band Try-outs!

Tuesday:  Art Class - 5 Blind Contour Drawings due!  School Pictures - smile:)

Wednesday:  Tech Class - Hey, we have iPads!  Also, 3 Hour Early Out

Thursday:  Special Activities in Literacy Class - Hmmn...not telling yet...

Friday:  Field trip to Nashua, IA for Borlaug Learning Center - BRING OWN LUNCHES from HOME.  Review the note sent home last week about water bottles, clothing, etc.

Other News...
Also, I heard some great news for Cresco!  This FRIDAY NIGHT, the Cresco Theater Re-OPENS:)  I know a lot of kids have missed the theater while it was closed.  The NEW showtime is going to be at 7:00 p.m. (instead of 7:30).  Also, I think one of our 5B students will go BONKERS when she sees this...   The movie that will be shown this Friday, Sept. 12 @ 7 p.m. is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!!

I'll know you checked the blog if you WRITE DOWN the name of which 5B student will be QUITE excited to know that TMNT is showing this Friday.  If you don't know, just take a wild guess. She talks about them ALL of the time, has shirts, necklaces and everything else with it on them!  Let's see how well we know our classmates!

Short Post Tonight...

Another day of super Cadet Pride!  I think you guys are starting to save up your Cadet Cash for a trip to a the Cadet Store!  I'd love to continue and complete this week with the same fabulous behaviors! A real challenge will be tomorrow when we have a goofy schedule, a special event and some silly dancing and exercise time! Can 5B handle all of that goofiness and craziness?  It's your chance to say... "In Yo' Face, Mrs. Sorenson!" if you can:)

I loved hearing all of your passions today for Cadet Time.  I'm sorry the laptops were not cooperating with us.  You dealt with it pretty well though!  Pat yourself on the back for that!

Here are the Wordles that both 5B and 5D created in literacy today!

I'll know you checked the blog if you come in the classroom, find a comfy spot to Read to Self, and just start in for me.  I'll come around and tell you to stop when it's time.  We missed Read to Self today, so you can start off tomorrow building your stamina!

Miss ya'll!

WOW Wednesday for 5B!

5B,
You know how impressed I was with you today.  Other than a few chatter bugs here and there, we really have this top notch class thing figured out!

I realize every day we get to make many choices on how we deal with something.  We could be strong and remember what the "angel" side of us could do or be weak and not T.H.I.N.K. and get pulled into some poor choices.  I'm so proud of each of you for going through that battle each day and trying to be the best 5B student you can be!  LOVE your Cadet Pride!  So, so happy to be a part of the 5B Family!!!!

Share with your families about us starting our Cadet Time today and how it will be a time for you to become a stronger student using your PASSIONS....  I'm including the 2 videos I shared in class today.  It would be great to share them with your parents!  See what they think:)  Tomorrow we will continuing looking for our passions and begin thinking how we could use them to better ourselves!

For Creativity Takes Time:  Click Here

In writing, we didn't get as far as I had hoped on our KidBlogs, but please feel free to explore it from home.  (Remember what your password was???)  If not, go onto your Google Drive from home and look it up from there:)  Share with your family about our hope to share out with the world!  You can change your profile picture, even try posting a blog if you feel like it!  We'll continue tomorrow, too!

At the end of a long day, I feel like I need something to make me laugh!  Remember the quote on our wall.... "A Day Without Laughter is a Day Wasted."

I'll know you checked the blog if....
You watch this video link to see if it makes you smile, giggle, chuckle, laugh or even just feel good! Click below and in the morning, tell me the response YOU had to watching the video.  It definitely changed my mood:)  Have a super night!  Remember band trying out tomorrow and P.E.!

5B is FABULOUS! (Fabulous! with pizzazz)!

5B,
I sure hope you go home to your families and brag about how amazing our class is!  I know bragging is not the best example of Cadet Pride, but hey, when you Got It, Flaunt It, Baby!

Great job for those who checked the blog!  I love seeing you taking the extra effort to show you think about school even AFTER you walk out of the doors:)  Keep that up and encourage your friends to do so too if they aren't checking, ok?!

Also, awesome job making Mrs. Branum pay up for her Ice Bucket Challenge/Self Portrait Unicorn Drawing Dare!  She'll donate $20 in honor of 5B!  Way to show you care!

I'll keep it kind of short tonight, but I wanted to remind you and families of some of the events coming up this week and the next weeks, too!

THIS WEEK:
* Students will be testing out instruments for band!
*This Friday - Wear you Cadet Nation Shirts (or BLUE)!
*This Friday - Fun with Fitness Day!  Dance and Bouncy Houses!

COMING UP:
*Next Week:  Picture Day!
*Next Friday, Sept. 12 - Field Trip to Borlaug Learning Center
*Next, Next Friday, Sept. 19 - Field Trip to Borlaug Farm

BUSY, BUSY, BUSY, eh?!!!

In addition to the field trips to celebrate Norman Borlaug's contributions to the world, during the Harvest Fest there will be opportunities to help package meals for people who don't have enough food!  Here's the link to check it out and volunteer to help package meals!  Get the whole family helping!  Thinking of others is the best way to find out what kind of person you are!

I'll know you checked the blog if you come in right away and ask me, "Can you tell me more about these field trips, please?"  Don't forget the please!  I'll hand you a paper that explains both of them to you!  Then just have a seat while we're getting ready for attendance!

Have a fantastic night!  WONDERFUL Wednesday is upon us!  No more Wild or Wacky ones like last week, right?!

Awesome Long Weekend! But CRAZY weather, huh?!

Hey, My Darling 5B Angels (ding...ahhhh)!

I hope you all had a super extra day for a vacation!  Mine was good, but boy, oh boy, I was quite busy and am feeling a wee bit tired right now!  I'm going to have to get my family to bed VERY early tonight so I don't come grumpy and tired to school on Tuesday!  No one needs Mr. or Miss Grumpy Pants being all moody tomorrow, do they?!  No fun for 5B:(

So, if you are feeling tired from all of your busy weekend plans, PLEASE do your 5B Family a favor and get some sleep tonight, ok?!  Pretty please, with sugar on top?  Or a candy bar?  Or Cheetos?  Or Steak? Whatever works for you:) Just Please???

This week will be short, but we'll jump right back into all of the fantastic Cadet Pride behaviors you've been working on.  We'll also start Cadet Time in the morning.  This is a special time for you to focus on specific skills just for you that make you a stronger student!  I'm excited to start this tomorrow!

Also, this Friday is the FIRST FRIDAY of the the MONTH, so that means it is CADET NATION T-SHIRT DAY!  If you've been in our district before, you should have one of these.  It was given to EVERY student last fall.  So, I'm giving you a big heads up to start digging for it now if you can't think of where it is! OK?
Now, if you are NEW to our building and do NOT have a Cadet Nation T-shirt, please let me know, and we'll get you your very own that fits you!  We just need to see what size you'll need.

Also, there's something special planned for Friday.  I'll know you checked the blog over the weekend, if you whisper to me, "So what's the big surprise on Friday?"  I'll be sure to tell the whole class when we finish with the pledge:)
Have a super rest of your Labor Day.  I've switched the class jobs around, so some of you will have a break, while others are helping us out for this week and next.  I'm excited to hear about the camping trips, barbeques, birthday parties, visits with cousins, drawing, moving, gaming and other special activities everyone had planned.

Take care ya'll,
~Mrs. Sorenson

Wonderful but Wild Wednesday:)

Actually, 5B, you had a great day!  It was just our last 10 minutes that seemed to be a bit too wild and wacky! No worries though... I'm so glad you are a part of 5B and are already showing such great improvement and quick to remember the T.H.I.N.K. and how to show respect!

Tonight will be a super short blog post!  I'm really impressed with how many of you have been checking the blog each night/morning!  Way to go!!  Love the effort and responsibility!

Today's proof to show that you checked the blog is this...

Finish this poem for me and share the your part quietly to me in the morning!... (And poems do NOT have to rhyme, but I'm hoping you will make this one but whatever works for you!)

It's so great to have a class that is so sweet!
Mrs. Sorenson's should give them each a yummy ____________.

Fill in that blank and tell me in the morning what word you chose to put in the blank!

Again, great listening and role models for respect today, 5B!

Miss you!
~Mrs. Sorenson

It Was a...

Wow!  Not too tired to show AMAZING Respect and the ability to T.H.I.N.K. what you are doing or saying!  Sooooo amazing:)  Loving the energy and personalities from my 5B Angels (ding...ahhh)!

I bet tomorrow will be something super as well!  That will be your proof for checking the blog.  I know you checked the blog if you come up with a phrase for what kind of Wednesday we will have!  Today was a "Totally Tubular Tuesday"!  We had an "On the Move Monday"!  So what will tomorrow bring?!  Just come whisper it in my ear in the morning, ok?

Here are some pictures of the great THINKING and STRATEGIES we worked on in reading today!

Cam tried using a mirror,
but that didn't work.
Others tried using laptops, inverting
the colors, and taking pictures.
Others worked together to see it
from a different angle or distance!
That seemed to help.
Some from 5D's class even tried
EATING it!  Um... it didn't help:(

In the end... only a few students were able to read the two sentences that were on the page.  I LOVED seeing how students kept trying.  But we're NOT giving up on it. We'll try again.... because..... Reading is THINKING...Grrrr... with STRATEGY!

After amazing work time, patience during the frustration we're having with technology not cooperating with us, and fabulous respect we had all morning, we decided a little bubble blowing and fun was necessary!

I think we MADE these little Kessel Kids babies' day!  Their
smiles and giggles from the bubbles were priceless!

Have a great night!  See you all in the morning!  Don't forget to prove how you checked the blog, ok?!
