Gone Again... Sorry!!!!!!

OK, 5B, I forgot to tell you on Friday that I would not be in our classroom until 10:00 on Monday morning. I have to be at a meeting for a new computer program that we get to use in our classroom, which is awesome for us! However, that means I have to go to a training on it to be able to show YOU how to use it! With the craziness of the week, I forgot to tell you about it. So, I'm sorry that I'll miss you right away on Monday morning.

If you see or chat with ANYONE from 5B, please let them know this and tell them they should NOT come in to check the blog because a sub will be in the room. She will not be able to meet with students. Your sub until 10:00 a.m. is Mrs. Mahr. Mrs. Hartberg will be in helping out during literacy again, so things will go great, I'm sure!!

Ok.. so here's your crazy schedule for Monday..
8:45 - 9:25 Literacy - no P.E. today - finishing up computer projects, book clubs, etc.
9:30 - 10:00 Math
10:05 - 10:35 Science Test!
10:40 - 12:00 Talent Show!!! Bring on the singers, dancers, magicians, etc.! Have your props, music, instruments, etc. with you!!
Lunch/Recess/Mentoring - Anyone not done with computer project should stay in!
1:00 - 2:30ish?? Movie at the High School!
We'll see what we have left for time when we get back!

So, please pass on this blog message and schedule to other 5B students since they won't be able to come in and check in with Mrs. Mahr. See the schedule again on the Smartboard. The whiteboard will have all of the Literacy Jobs you should be making sure you have done.

Have a great morning, and I'll see you at 10:00ish! Be good, get work done and check your stockings! Santa emailed me to say he was stopping by!

What a DAY!!

OK, 5B, this picture is what I looked like after competing against so many of you at the Big Blast. I had such a great time. You guys worked so hard and well throughout the morning with computer projects and book clubs! But, boy oh boy, did you give ME a workout in the afternoon!

We have many other fun events coming up, so keep your head focused with assignments and tests coming up. I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on any other events. Remember, anyone that does not prove to be responsible to get math work (or other work for that matter) done for Wednesday will be answering to someone OTHER than me. So, please think about how important it is to get your jobs done everyday and night.

Tomorrow SHOULD be somewhat normal. I believe you have library out of math class, too. Oh, and don't forget to bring your stockings! Santa is afraid you don't believe in him:(
I'll know you checked the blog if you can come up with a rhyming line to finish this poem.... In December there's so much to do.... (now you come up with another line that finishes the poem and rhymes with "do")

BRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

Well, 5B, I guess winter has SURELY arrived! Hopefully everyone has stayed warm and didn't get stuck anywhere because of the bad weather any part of the weekend. We were supposed to go to Rochester and Kasson this weekend, but NOPE, not happening with the cold and roads.

Let's just hope this weather doesn't get in the way of our Big Blast on Tuesday! So, if we have cold and messy weather on the weekends, I guess we'll just deal with it, right?!

This week is going to be an extremely BUSY one with finishing up so many different projects and getting ready for extra activities.

Here's your heads up for the next week and a half...
Throughout the Week - Finish up "Cresco Care Cards" and get them sent
Rest of Week - Finishing up Big Computer Projects
Tues., Dec. 14 - Big Blast in afternoon - no Group Band
Fri., Dec. 17 - Book Clubs must be completed, Computer Projects must be completed

Science and Soc. St. tests???
Math work and tests??

Mon., Dec. 20 - Talent Show in A.M., movie (if we earn it) in P.M.

Tues., Dec. 21 - Round 3 Think Fights for any groups that are still in the competition!!
Wed., Dec. 22 - Last Day, 1 hour early out!

So, as you can see, the next week and a half is jammed packed with events. Keep our chatting down, our effort/responsibility at 100% and our attitudes positive! Let's finish up 2nd quarter and 2010 with a "Yeah, Baby, Look at me shine!!" **I'll know you checked the blog if you whisper in my ear the 3 reminders I just wrote above that are highlighted in orange.

Starting Off Fresh....

Well, 5B... I've cooled down after my mini "explosion" last Friday afternoon. Hopefully, you chatted with your families about the behaviors that would not stop last Friday. Remember, 5B, I wrote in my letter home to your families that you truly have been improving, but that does not mean you need to stop trying to be your best at ALL TIMES. Boy, oh, boy, was Friday an OOPS for us or what?? So, let's learn from our mistakes and see what Monday and the rest of this week brings us. OK?

I'm curious to see how many of you enjoyed some type of outdoor or snow activity this weekend with our "first big snow." So, that's how I'll know you checked the blog. Find the snowflake paper on the front table when you come in. On the back of it, write your name and whether or not you played in the snow this weekend. Tape the paper "snowflake side up" to our door around the snowman.

Reread the 2nd paragraph. Almost everyday we have students who aren't sure where to put their papers, what to write on the papers, or something. So, please be responsible and independent by rereading the 2nd paragraph so you know EXACTLY what to do to prove you checked the blog this weekend.

See you tomorrow for a fresh start to the week. It's a busy week, so stay focused and keep showing your Cadet Pride.

Big Blast Parent Volunteers Needed

5B, hopefully you took time to share with your families whether you were a model student or one that needed work/practice during social studies class today. The best way to show you have Cadet Pride is by continuing that excellent behavior or improving the inappropriate behaviors to show you can fix your mistakes. Let's see what tomorrow brings in 5B Land.

The heading of this post is the main point of today's message. The Big Blast is set for Tuesday, December 14 in the gym from 1:50 - 3:00 p.m. We would love 2 - 3 parents that would be interested in helping us supervise the large inflatable equipment. Parents would need to be available 10 minutes before our start time. So, 5B, please ask your parents if they have any interest in celebrating this day with us! The first 3 names that I get as volunteers, I will take! So, let me know ASAP if you're able to help. Thanks in advance for your support and time.

Have a good night, and think about what type of student you want to be known as on Thursday. I'll be looking for the model ones (hint, hint).

Great Start to the Week!

What a great day we had today, 5B. Aside from chatting (which we ALWAYS need work on), we had a productive, organized day! Thanks for making things go so smoothly!

I'll keep it short tonight. Reminders....
Book Club Reading or Timed Sheets for Mrs. H. for tomorrow
Book-It Calendars due tomorrow - remembered to have them signed!
Cold weather is on it's way, so wear hats, gloves, coats, etc. Be ready for the wind!

Here's the way I'll know you checked the blog. Since you'll probably be indoors in the morning because of yucky weather, I'd like you to come in and work on your pen pal letters instead of sitting by your lockers. I'll have the publishing paper ready for those who are ready. I'd like to send these out by the end of the week, so that means you'd better get crackin'!

Later Gators!

Back to Work...

Hey there, 5B,
It seems like it's been FOREVER since I've seen you guys! I hope everyone got a chance to relax, sleep in, see family, eat yummy food, watch some football (if you're in to that), and just be thankful for all of the good things that are in your life. I was able to do all of those things and more! I even got to see Senorita Rachel! She said she misses you guys and plans to Skype with us on Friday of this week! Maybe she'll teach us some holiday greetings for the season!

I can't believe this week will be the start of December! We've got a busy month ahead of us! We have book clubs, more Think Fights and a huge computer project in literacy. I'm sure you'll have science, social studies and math tests coming up over the next few weeks. On top of all of that, we have your music concert, the Big Blast and Hummer rides, and don't forget our 5th Grade Winter Talent Show! To make us even busier bees, we need to send out our 1st set of pen pal letters and the Cresco Cares Cards we started at our last Team Building meetings!!!! My goodness, this month will fly by us like Santa's reindeer on Christmas Eve! Oh, and we also have our blue slips to earn for the holiday movie at the high school!

With all of the craziness upon us, it's important to stay responsible with homework and all other jobs we have. Let's finish off 2010 with a CADET PRIDE EXPLOSION!

I'll know you checked the blog over the weekend if you vote for your possible talent for the 5th Grade Winter Talent Show to the right of this post. All you have to do is click on the one you would rather do as your talent. (No, you don't really have to do one of these options! I was just having a little fun!)

See you in the morning! Remember, Monday's are a mess. You need to have everything out and ready to go as soon as you come in. P.E. is right away, then off to Soc. St. and Science classes until I see you for literacy around 11:0o!

Monday, November 22, 2010

Marvelous Monday...

5B,
You did a wonderful job today in literacy class with many confusions of reading class and the patience you had in writing time. I really appreciate how much you've all seemed to mature and be able to handle that kind of situation. Earlier in the year, I think many of you would not have been able to handle that craziness that happened today. Wow... my little 5B Babycakes are growing up... (sniff, sniff, tear drop).

I'll keep it short tonight. Don't forget any pages you need to read for your book club. Also, the extra credit for literacy is due Wednesday if you are going to do it.

I put the Mike Tompkins video on the side of the blog so you can watch it if you like. I'll know you checked the blog if you come up with your own sound that we hear tomorrow in class. I'll be planning to record it. So, make sure it's something you can do clearly and well.

Can't wait to hear your beat boxing!!

Short Week Ahead!

5B,
I know you are probably excited for a short week of school with a holiday break coming, but keep in mind that we still do have a lot to accomplish from now until our longer break at Christmas time. So, be thinking about how you can keep your focus and continue to take your work seriously.

I'm happy to announce that we have shown off our best efforts to prove what we have learned for the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. Thanks to everyone for showing how much you care about your learning and our whole school. On Wednesday, we'll have a little mini-celebration for all of your efforts. When we get the results in January, we'll have you look specifically at the Reading and Math scores to see if you met your individual goals that you set. Can't wait to see!!!!

A couple of reminders for this week...
Monday -Band people - don't forget lessons...
Tuesday - Group Band
Wednesday - 1 hour early out and mini-celebration for ITBS efforts

Also, I'll know you checked the blog tonight if you listen to song #110 on my playlist. It's called "Dynamite". I'm guessing most of you have heard it before. Write this down on a post-it note, "So, what's the big deal with this song?" Make sure your name is on it. Please put it on my desk in the morning. I found the ABSOLUTE COOLEST thing to share with you on Monday morning about this song. I've been thinking about it ALL WEEKEND!!!

So, make sure you help get the class ready for their morning subjects so that I have time to share this TOTALLY AWESOME thing!!! Have a good rest of your weekend!

We SURVIVED our Show-Off Challenge!!!

Way to go, 5B! You did it! You made it through 2 weeks of showing off your knowledge, safety tips and stamina during the ITBS!! So, proud of YOU! The 5th grade teachers have planned a little "pre-celebration" for all of the 5th graders for next Wednesday before we head out for Thanksgiving break. We wanted to make sure you knew how proud of you we truly are! You'll get more details next week!

Don't forget that we have a special Team Building activity tomorrow, so if you have any type of scrapbook paper, scissors, glitter, yarn, punch outs, etc., and you're willing to share them, please bring them. You will be going to the 3rd room (or teacher) this time.

Also, tomorrow, we will get to see Senorita Rachel FINALLY since about 4 weeks ago. She said she's excited to see/chat, but forgive her for being tired. She is seeing the midnight showing of Harry Potter's Seventh Book: The Deathly Hallows. She's a MAJOR Harry Potter fan!

Oh, and don't forget to share all that new learning we found out today about food and nursery rhymes.... boy, can learning be weird, fun, and gross!!??

This week just flew by for me. It must be all the hard workers! I'll know you checked the blog if you write a short caption for the picture of Isaiah in this post. Write what you think he would say if he could say something to 5B. Write it on a post-it note, and be ready to share it when I show the picture of Isaiah to the rest of the class.

Thankful....for My 5B Babycakes!!

Great job sharing your "Thankful" pieces today in class. I was very impressed with the effort put into publishing, the expression used in class when reading them and the audience that was respectful and interactive! Thanks for all that hard work!

I also was impressed with your ITBS cheers today. So many of you are checking the blog more regularly now which is AWESOME! Quite a responsible bunch of students I have with me! Keep it up! I'm guessing the class would have to agree that Adam's cheer surprised us all with his enthusiasm! But everyone did a great job for being so brave! Look for a little something on your desk tomorrow morning as a little reward for being so courageous with your cheers!

Hopefully everyone remembered to pick up their Chipshoppe items tonight after school. I look forward to getting my items from the student who sold to me...even though it WASN'T a 5B-er:{

Keep up your stamina and positive attitude with the rest of our ITBS tests this week...
Remember:
Tues. - Math
Wed. - Vocabulary (Reading)
Thurs. - Language (Wrtiting)
Fri. - RELAX!!!

I'll know you checked the blog this time if find someone else who checked the blog (for real, not by you telling them about it) and sing "Ring Around the Rosie" in front of the class. After you do this, I'll share an interesting and weird story about that song! Can't wait to see who's up for the singing and dancing challenge!!

Doin' My Happy Dance!

Hey there my little 5B Munchkins (heeehehehe),
I missed you guys on Friday. It was my first time being gone, so it was tough to be away from my 5B family. I'm sure you had a nice break from me though!!

I chatted with your substitute teacher a couple of times on Friday. She said there were extremely helpful students in 5B. I was soooooo thrilled to hear the news that I did a little happy dance. I'm so glad she felt she wanted to come back to 5th grade again sometime. We want anyone who visits us to feel welcomed, respected and comfortable.

I heard you got to enjoy your snacks/drinks if you wanted to. Lucky ducks! Just remember to bring it again for Monday. This time you'll get to have it for real. Don't forget your Thankful for Your Voice piece will be shared Monday, so if we weren't quite responsible enough to have it done on Friday, then you lucked out. Know that I will be expecting amazingly published pieces for Monday in writing!

You made it through 1 week of showing off your KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS with the ITBS (yeehaw!!!). Can you keep up your stamina?? Week 2 will REALLY be the test to see if you can keep the "Bring it On" attitude or if you will let the "lazies" take over you. Here's this week's schedule for tests....
Monday - Science (30 minutes)
Tuesday - Math Problem Solving and Data (30 minutes)

Wednesday - (3 hour early out) Literacy (15 minutes)

Thursday - Literacy (30 minutes)

Friday - NADA!!!! Unless you have some make-ups to do...

With the continuation of the busy testing week, don't forget your THINK FIGHTS this week. It sounds like everyone had a chance to meet with their groups and get fired up for this week! Great! I can't wait to see you in action! Bring on the THINKING!!

Have a great rest of the weekend. I'll know you checked the blog this weekend if you come up with a cheer to keep up the awesome attitude for ITBS this week! Write it down, but also be ready to share it with the class. I may just have an extra treat for you for being brave enough to perform it!

Wednesday, November 10, 2010

Super Serious about ITBS!!

5B, I have to admit.... you have been putting forth fantastic effort every single day we've taken the different tests. Now, just keep in mind we have 1 each day throughout this week and most of next week. So, keep up the effort each day, get good rest the night before, and remember what we get to keep doing if we show improvement and progress on these tests!!!!

Also, share with your families the special event we have tomorrow to celebrate our local Veterans. Mrs. Halverson has given you a list of appropriate questions to use when given the chance to ask the men and women who will visit. Have a few in mind, so it doesn't seem like you're just reading off any random question. OK? I'm hoping 5B wouldn't mind singing a part of God Bless America if there is time. Of course, I'd have the music in the background, so it wouldn't be all by yourselves. I think the Veterans would feel impressed to know that 5th graders know that song and take it seriously.

Lastly, I'll know you checked the blog if you write a special birthday message to MR. Sorenson on a POST-IT note. It's his birthday on Thursday. If you hand it in to me in the morning, I'll be sure to stick it on his classroom door or window, so he knows that he is special, too! Don't forget your name so he knows who to thank if he sees you!

Monday, November 8, 2010

Teeny Weeny Post Tonight....

Great job on your 1st ITBS (yeh...hooray...) today, 5B. Everyone had super attitudes and showed serious effort towards the Capitalization and Punctuation tests today.

I'll know you checked the blog this time if you write down one thing you'll try to do to show you're taking your test seriously during Tuesday's ITBS in math class. Write it on a piece of paper like you did for today. Make sure your name is on it. Hand it to me right away in the morning!

Toodles...
Mrs. Sorenson

P.S. Don't forget that your draft for writing class (Thankful for your Voice) is due tomorrow. :)

Get a Good Night's Rest... Another Safety Tip!

Hey there my little pooches!!! You'll have to explain to your parents why I'm referring to you as dogs:) I hope you had a good weekend and were able to get an extra hour of sleep or fun at some point on Sunday. Do your best to get a good night's rest this evening so your up and ready for your first I....T....B....S! (YEH!!!!) With Daylight Savings happening this weekend, it will mess up your sleeping schedule a little bit, so get in bed at a decent time tonight.

To give you a little heads up about your ITBS schedule this week, I've listed which specific tests you'll be taking each day...

Monday - 2 short tests (Capitalization and Punctuation)

Tuesday - 1 longer test (Math Concepts and Estimation)
Wednesday - 1 longer test (Reading Comprehension Part 1)
Thursday - 1 longer test (Reading Comprehension Part 2)
Friday - 1 short test (Spelling)

Remember, 5B, you'll be taking these tests in the classrooms that you usually have literacy or math or word study/spelling this week. There are more next week, but let's not worry about that right now.

I think Mrs. Sovereign was impressed with how well 5th graders understand how important these tests are to each student, each teacher, each grade and our whole school. You should feel quite sophisticated (huuh, rub, rub) that you understand all this.

I'll know you checked the blog this weekend if you write down this message on a piece of paper to hand in to me: I'm ready to do my best on the Capitalization and Punctuation ITBS today! Make sure your name is on it!

See you in the morning!

Loving Jib Jab...

Well, 5B,
Because of the popular demand, I have included the 3 different jib jab videos to the blog. Remember, if you and/or your family makes one, please send it to my school email. I'd love to share it with the class! So, check the right side of the blog under the title "Jib Jab Videos".

It was a good day in class again. Our classroom behaviors seem to continue to be showing Cadet Pride, but I don't know if the hallway and line behaviors are following the same actions. We will be practice some of these things tomorrow as reminder lessons.

Be sure to tell your families about your new pen pal from the Virginia! We'll have some time on Friday to actually start writing the letters. Remember to brainstorm some ideas to write to them.

Also, IF you check the blog tonight, you will prove it by bringing in 5 pieces of candy from Halloween (that is, if you haven't eaten it all by now???). Bring it in and set it on your desk or table. Do NOT eat it until I give you permission. (No homemade or peanut/peanut butter)

Have a great night... I'm off to eat some pancakes!!

Sunday, October 31, 2010

Hope You Had a Happy Halloween!

Hey there, 5B... I'll keep it short since I know tonight is a busy night for most of you. Be safe when trick or treating. I hope to see you. If not, have a great time.

I know Jerry Seinfeld says it's all about the CANDY! Get CANDY, Get CANDY, Get CANDY! So, I'll make checking the blog a tasty one! If you check the blog, you can bring in 3 pieces of candy that you get from your trick or treating. Remember, it cannot be homemade or have any peanuts in it. You'll probably go into a sugar withdrawl if you don't have some candy on Monday, so I'll help you out with it!

If we can get our jobs done quickly in the morning and show we are ready for our busy P.E. and other classes by 8:40, I have something fun to show you on the Smartboard! Hopefully, I'll get a chance to share it with you!

Have fun tonight!!!

Figuring Things Out...

OK, 5B... we're kinda going through a bumpy road right now. All of our blue Cadet Pride slips and yellow Cadet Pride slips and acorn student Cadet Pride slips show that we do know what Cadet Pride looks like, sounds like and acts like. Right?? You all wrote essays today in Mrs. Halverson's class explaining what good classroom behaviors are also. They were filled with perfect ideas and examples of what students should be doing in class. Wonderful! It seems like our problem is that we do not always DO what we KNOW we should do.

You know that I was disappointed and frustrated today by the way I acted during planners and as you left. It made me feel bad to not say goodbye to each of you or have you do something fun/goofy as you left, but I don't know if we should be doing the goofy or silly stuff if we can't act serious first.

I titled this post "Figuring Things Out" because I feel like we are SOOOOOOO capable of having a class that shines with Cadet Pride! But, we still need to figure out things to make it happen most of time instead of some of the time. So, please visit the website to the right of the blog. Play the game and see how far you can get before getting really stuck. I got to level 18 and am stumped. That's what I think is happening to 5B. We know what to do, but they we get stuck.

Let's try to end our week on a better note that we've had the last few days. We have a goofy schedule because of the 1 hour early out and conferences, so check the board in the morning We start off the day with some homeroom time.

Think about your Cadet Pride...and if you are willing to make it shine or choose not to.

Peace Out.... Mrs. Sorenson

Made it Through Monday!

5B, You did a FANTASTIC job today in the morning getting right to our report cards, filling out our conference forms and getting ready for your morning classes! What a great way to start the week!

I've noticed that many of my darling 5B students are NOT checking in with the blog. I've decided to test you out. I'll know you checked the blog tonight if you right down your top score to the game I have set up to the right side of the blog. It's called "Play this Dumb Game." Write your score on a post-it note. Put your name on it and hand it to me when you come in right away in the morning.
It's a REALLY dumb game... there's no educational value to it at all, but it is pretty addicting!

Take some time to go through your report cards and literacy binder with your family tonight. If there are any questions, I can chat with you and your parents at conferences this week.

Reminder, tomorrow is a 1 hour early out. That means there is NO group band. We will be following a Tuesday schedule without band at the end of the day!

Thanks for a good day today, 5B! We'll see you in the morning with your post-it notes proving you checked the blog!

Sunday, October 24, 2010

Wacky Week Ahead!!

Hey, there little 5B Angels (ding!),
Hopefully you were able to relax and enjoy your weekend because this week is going to be "Go, Go, Go!" Right away Monday morning we have a busy morning anyway, but on top of that, you have 1st Quarter Report Cards waiting for you on your desks. I want you to have a chance to look through them before I send you off to P.E. and then social studies/science classes. Remember, I don't get to see you until 11:ooish on Mondays. No Fair!! So, do your ABSOLUTE best to come in right away, look through your report card and be ready to listen.

Here's a little reminder why this week will be crazy! We're trying to fit in our learning with this kind of schedule..
Monday - Go over Report Cards right away in the morning before P.E. and band lessons
Tuesday - 1 hour early out - Conferences for some of you!
Wednesday - Library out of Literacy Class this week
Thursday - 1 hour early out - Conferences for some of you! **Picture Retakes Today**
Friday - NO SCHOOL!! Relax and enjoy a 3 day weekend!

Also.. exciting news... Judd may be back this week on Tuesday already! Yeh, we missed him!
Oh, and I have your languages all set up for Rosetta Stone! Get ready to start learning more Spanish, German and French!

OK.. I'll know 5B students checked the blog, if they help out and tell EVERYONE else in 5B to make sure to quickly come in, look through report cards, and finish filling out the yellow conference reflection form we started on Friday of last week. You have 2 parts to fill out once you see your report cards. If we don't get our report cards looked through and reflection forms finished, we'll be late for P.E.!! We know we don't want that!!!

Thanks for your help, you little Munchkins (hehehehe)!

Work, Work, Work...

Wuzz up, 5B Babycakes!
The last few days have been great days for getting work done. I've seen amazing workers during literacy time. Are we still chatting???? Uh, yes... But I do feel like we're being more productive. I like so many of you taking your writers' workshop pieces so seriously. Thursday will be your last day to work on your piece because Friday we SHOW OFF our published pieces - our best work!

We seemed like a smaller class today with Judd, Adam and Collin being gone. We know Judd won't be back tomorrow due to his surgery, but we sure hope Adam and Collin will be. We don't feel complete unless our whole 5B family is here! Everyone, get well soon and get back with us!

Remember Thursday is Red and Purple Day - show you care about others by donating a non-perishable food item! Let's see how much you care, how responsible you are and how much respect you can show towards others by thinking of them first!

Also, 5B students, help remind your families to return your conference slips. Even if the times don't work, that's fine. Write down a time range that DOES work, and I'll do what I can to schedule something that's doable. Thanks again!

5B, I've noticed that students are not always checking the blog as much, so here's a little test for you. If you DO check the blog tonight, write "I checked the blog." on a post-it note and make sure your name is on it. Put it in YOUR mailbox. Don't tell anyone or talk to anyone about it. You'll earn a special something tomorrow, but I'm not telling you what it is.

We'll see who's doing their jobs??!! See you Thursday morning! Good work today, my little munchkins (heehehehee).

Sunday, October 17, 2010

What a GORGEOUS Weekend!!!

5B, I sure hope you were able to enjoy this amazing weather we're having in OCTOBER!!! I think last year at this time, there may have been a few snow flurries. So, take advantage of the amazing sunshine and 75 degree temperatures in the middle of October.

Hopefully, you shared with your parents our fall celebration and team building activity from Friday. The students from the video needed a lot of practice and practice to be as strong as they were to exhibit Cadet Pride (well, I guess in their case it was Titan Pride). We saw many mistakes and examples of disrespect as well. Think about how you felt about some of those bad actions. Do you want to be sharing that same way of thinking?? I know that I don't. Let's keep working on our Cadet Pride this week like every week and participate in Character Counts Week activities.

Character Counts Activities - to start off the week...
Monday - Yellow for Respect Hat Day
**Bring in a non-perishable food item any day this week, but Tuesday is the "official" Caring Day.

Our Spanish Skype Buddy has been so impressed with our class. Senorita Rachel said she looks forward to our visits each week. Since some of you seem so excited and interested in learning Spanish, I have a special treat for you. Anyone who is SERIOUSLY interested in learning more Spanish, write your first and last name on a post-it note and hand it to me on Monday morning.

I'll know you checked the blog this weekend, if you can translate a Spanish word into English. Use the website at the left side of the post. Type in the Spanish word in the box. You can even listen to it by clicking on the speaker button below. The English word will show up to the left.
Spanish word: el orgullo
Whisper what this word means in my ear as you enter the classroom tomorrow.

Can't wait to see your hats and yellow tomorrow! Remember, it's a 3-hour early out also!

Miss Grumpy Visited 5B for First Time...

Well, 5B, you got to see me turn into Miss Grumpy today. Unfortunately, seeing Miss Grumpy made everyone better workers. I saw more work and better work done today in our homeroom/band time than most of our days we've had so far this year. I REALLY don't want us to go through each day with Miss Grumpy having to visit, but if we need that to help remind us how to show Cadet Pride, I guess I'll give her a desk and make her a permanent part of our class. (No offense to Miss Grumpy, but I don't need to see her that often... how about you???)

So, 5B, seriously think about taking care of you, your materials, your work and then we'll make sure to get in some chatting and goofy time! OK???

What I LOVED about today is that I got to start the day off with you and hear about the events going on in your life. I know we didn't hear from everyone today, so I'd like to continue hearing more tomorrow before we go to P.E. Let's have Kris start us off right away, Ally will lead a pledge and then we'll meet on the floor again for sharing!

I'll know you checked the blog, if you watch and LISTEN to the video I have at the side of the blog. It's about 6 minutes long, so you don't have to listen to all of it, but about 3 or 4 minutes would get you the point. Be able to tell the class and me what this video has to do with Cadet Pride. That will be your proof that you checked the blog! Think Deep!

Munchkins on Monday!

Hey, 5B,
I've been so impressed with you catching each other show Cadet Pride. It's so great to know I can depend on you and trust you to recognize Cadet Pride all over, not just in our classroom. Fabulous! Keep it up.

It sounds like the areas we need to work on in science class and planner time are listening to the speaker and less chatting during those times, too. I know we are capable of doing our jobs as students better because I've seen you do it many times before. Show off your Cadet Pride by being a leader and role model for your class at all times (even if the teacher is not looking :)).

Check out the homecoming photo at the side of the blog. If you click on it once or twice, it should make it bigger so you can check yourself out a bit more. I'll know you checked the blog tonight if you look closely at the photo and show me the same face that Abbie was doing in the class picture. I will be at the door as you come in watching for those who checked the blog! Hopefully Abbie gets this right, too!!

Have a good night...see you Tuesday! Don't forget about group band some of you!

Kids Catching Kids with Cadet Pride!

Hey, 5B,
It's been a busy week for us with homecoming dress up days and crazy schedules, but I'm so proud of the kids catching each other show Cadet Pride! It's so great to see you guys recognizing when your classmates are being trustworthy, respectful, caring, and responsible. Unfortunately, we've had a number of "mistakes" and careless behaviors from our classmates also this week, so I'm going to have to help out by using our pink slips again. Hopefully, it won't be very often though. Just keep working at taking care of yourself first, then be helpful to your classmates.

Tomorrow is not going to be normal in any way whatsoever. So.... I'm a little concerned that we may not be able to handle all of the excitement with guidance, a homecoming pep rally, art AND a 3-hour early out. Tomorrow will be a true test to see if 5B can show Cadet Pride in and outside of the classroom.

So, do what you can to prove that 5B EARNS the title "5B Angels" like I have called you in the past.

Have a good night and come with school spirit tomorrow! We'll get to see the cheers you created, too!

Chatty McChattersons....

Well... I can definitely say our class is social!! We surely aren't shy. Sharing our thoughts and opinions and questions are strengths for us. I just wish we knew WHEN the right time to share all of these wonderful comments was...

5B had a fantastic working day today. In all classes we did so well doing our "jobs" of learning. It was the transition times that really brought us down. So, let's see if this can be worked on even more. Tomorrow morning, there will be a new bulletin board at the front of the room. Make sure to check it out as you come in. I will explain how it works to everyone in the morning! I'm hoping this will help us with self-control and chatting.

I'll know you checked the blog tonight if you write down the amount of items you have sold for our fundraiser! Write it in your planner. I'll meet people at the door in the morning. Don't come in until you show me your planner. This way I will know for sure that you DID check the blog!!:)

Remember, tomorrow is Fitness Day, so where your athletic, workout clothes. We'll be doing some exercise tomorrow to celebrate such a healthy day! Also, it's library, so bring any books you want to return or renew.

It's Been A While....

Hey, 5B,
I hope you had a good weekend. It definitely felt like fall, but I heard this upcoming week is supposed to be a bit warmer. We'll take any decent weather we can get! It would be great for homecoming week to have the weather cooperate with us, wouldn't it?

Please make sure to thank your families for coming in on Friday for our Book-It Kick-Off. Hopefully, you enjoyed yourselves, relaxed, were entertained with a good book, and filled your tummies! Remember, the October goal to earn a personal pan pizza is to read 620 minutes this month. It can be 20 minutes each night, or it can just be a total of 620 (or more, of course) by the end of the month.

On Monday I'll be sending home another little incentive to earn something more for your family just by taking time to read with your family! I can't wait to see families give this a try!

With Friday being kind of crazy at the end of the day, I forgot to remind kids to think about the auditions for "Oliver" at the high school. I would love to come see my little Babycakes do a performance!

OK... crazy stuff this week... Fasten your seat belts 'cuz it's gonna be busy again...
All Week - selling for fundraiser until October 14, if you have sold 1 item since last Friday, I'll be handing out Silly Bandz again - bring in your order forms for proof, or have a parent write a note in your planner
Monday - Hat Day, FIRST BAND LESSONS TODAY, MISIC make-up testing
Tuesday - Jersey/Sports Day, First Group Band
Wednesday - Workout Clothes Day, Goofy Schedule due to Fall Fitness Day, Library
Thursday - Twin Day
Friday - 3-hour early out, Cadet/Blue&White Day, Guidance

I'll know you checked the blog today/tonight if you write down an idea for us to do to celebrate our 200 blue slips we earned by September 30th. We never got to talk about this, so I'd love to hear some ideas. Have it written on a piece of paper that I can keep. Make sure your name is on your paper. Hand it to me as you come in the room! I'm excited for your ideas!

Tired Mood Monday...

5B,
Hopefully you'll get a chance to rest up tonight a bit. Most of you seemed pretty exhausted by the end of the day. I know the MISIC tests really mess up our schedules, so it's hard to stay focused with the goofy times for classes. We did EVEN better on our Math MISIC than our first Reading MISIC last week! That's great that we're improving. Now, it gets even tougher. We have another MISIC (Language Usage) tomorrow right away at 8:45 am. Get a good night's rest and make sure to eat something in the morning to give you some energy.

I'd love to see our scores continue to go up each test that we take to show that our effort is NOT going down each day because we're tired. OK??

I realized I didn't give out ANY blue slips OR pink slips today. I think it was so busy that day was gone before I knew it! Sorry, I'll watch more closely tomorrow! Remember, we had 190 blue slips as of last Thursday. We need 200 to reach the September goal we made! Can't wait to see you accomplish it!!!

I'll know you checked the blog tonight if you follow Jason in an aerobics lesson. He will be "Fee Fee" for us tomorrow as you come in. He will continue leading a controlled aerobics class until Tami, our attendance person, tells us she's ready to begin! I REALLY can't wait to see who follows him and proves they've checked the blog!!!

Stay cool, my little 5B Babycakes (mmmmm)

Weekends Fly By, Don't They?

5B,
I hope you were able to join in on some of the festivities at Harvest Fest this weekend. I saw a few of you at the parade. I think it is soooo great that, after learning about Dr. Borlaug and his many accomplishments around the world, we are able to honor his legacy here in Cresco!! Hopefully, you told your parents and families about some of your favorite parts of our field trip last Friday. I have some "goodies" for you from some of our presenters. They will be put in your mailboxes on Monday morning.

The last few weeks seemed to be quite crazy with learning the schedules, band try-outs, early-outs, etc. Unfortunately, we have more of that to come... Here's a heads-up for more events to fit into our busy days...

Yikes!!! Not one "normal day" this week...
Monday - MISIC - Math, Band Night, and some lessons begin today
Tuesday - MISIC-Language
Wednesday - Rescheduled Bus Evacuation Drill and Another Early-Out
Thursday - Chipshoppe Assembly for Fundrasier
Friday - MISIC-Science and Book-It Kick-Off for Parents (2:45 - 3:15)

Also, some reminders...
**If you want a homecoming T-shirt, remember your order form and check needs to come in on Monday.
**Don't forget to check with your parents about this Friday's Book-It Kick-Off !
**Check to see your new jobs this week, and remember you have a new spot you've moved to!

I'll know you checked the blog if you have out your "Thank You Letter" you started Friday for the presenter you most enjoyed at the Borlaug Farm. Continue drafting, revising and editing it until the new Attendance Person begins our day!

Wow...this was a long one, huh??! Thanks for reading!!

Lots of Learning Today!

5B, you put a lot of effort into your MISIC reading tests today. I was impressed by those people really taking their time to do their very best. We'll look at last spring's scores to see what your growth from 4th grade was up until now. Usually, the real excitement comes in the spring. That's when we'll really see what you've learned this year! Think, think, think!

Remember, our field trip tomorrow will be an all day event. Dr. Norman Borlaug means a lot to Cresco and the rest of the world. If you get a chance, show your family www.freerice.com. Maybe as a family, you can help end world hunger as well! Try out some of the other subjects. You could even try out the new 2.0 version it advertises in the upper left-hand corner of the screen!

I added the reading video to the right side of the post. I thought you might want to hear/see it a bit more on your own, too! We'll still view it at school though.

I'll know you checked the blog tonight if you can get your table/desk group to be ready for attendance and pledges in the morning before Adam goes up to the front of the room to begin. The class should be completely quiet even before Adam gets up there! We'll see if our blog checkers can affect the whole class by helping them be responsible and respectful!

For Tomorrow
Dress in layers....wear older shoes.....label a water bottle if want.....be ready to learn even more!

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

L is for LISTENING....

OK, 5B, hopefully you will talk to your families about another chat we had today about listening and following directions. We had such a wonderful day yesterday!!!! Then today came with many "oopses". So, like we said today in class, we will learn from our mistakes so we don't need to make them over and over. OK???

**Remind your families about all of the events coming up over the next week or so..
The Rest of the Week
Thursday - MISIC test
Friday - Field Trip - no lunch needed, but can bring water bottle (labeled)
Next Week
Monday - MISIC
Homecoming T-shirt $ due

Tuesday - Begin 1st Band Lessons (no group band that day)

Wednesday - 3-hour early out

I'll know you checked the blog tonight if you can unscramble this sentence: Respect to show knows 5B how. Write it correctly in your planner.

Lexus - Um..Reading is Thinking...GRRRRRRRRR....with Strategy!
Karissa - I love school!
Brandon - Finally... What are you doing? What are you doing? (giggles from all) Um... Uh.. Um...School is so awesome. I can't wait 'til there's no more recess. (The class thinks Brandon's a bit Coo-Coo for saying this).
Joslin - Herbie still does "the Stare".
Tia - The saxophone is fun to play.
Shania - I don't want 5th grade to end!
Judd - Umm... (play with tongue) I like math!

Brilliant! Ooga Booga!

Yes, those were the words coming out of my 5B Angels' (ding) mouths today as they were leaving. Like I mentioned in class today, check out the YouTube video of "Me Myself and I" we saw in class today if you want. It is not required. I just think it is hilarious!

I had great discussions with students today who are finding ways to fix some mistakes we are making. Very proud of you, 5B! Keep it up.

I'll keep it short tonight, but I want to remind my little darlings to get these planners signed to show responsibility. I believe this would be an example of NOT doing your work, so pink slips will be used tomorrow for unsigned planners. Hopefully, we'll get to celebrate our accomplishment and responsibilities!

I'll know you checked the blog if you have a post-it on your desk of one of our 5B classmates who you think is a wonderful example of CADET PRIDE! This means they are caring all of the time, responsible of the the time, respectful all of the time, and trustworthy (even if the teacher is not looking) all of the time!

See ya tomorrow! It's almost FRIDAY!!

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

Whoo-Hoo for Wednesday!

Great day for 5B today! I saw some Cadet Pride slips dropped off in the jar! Yippee! Unfortunately, there were a few Mistake slips in there, too, so we'll have to see if which one outnumbered the other.

While you munchkins were off enjoying your fun freedom, the teachers worked on some ideas to do with their students. We found some fun activities that we'll get to try out on Friday during our first "Team Building" time. I learned about myself with one of the activities, so I hope you'll learn about yourself, too!

I'll know that you checked the blog tonight if you can figure out the secret coded message within this post. Find all of the colored letters, place them together and figure out the 3-word message! Write it in your planner or on a piece of paper! Show me during planner time.

Later Gators!!

We Won't HIDE our Cadet PRIDE!

My Darling 5B Angels (ding),
You really impressed me today during our discussion in homeroom. I was pleased to see so many of you realizing how important the RESPECTFUL behaviors are but how easily the DISRESPECTFUL behaviors can sneak into our day. So, I was thinking that the title of this post, "We Won't Hide our Cadet Pride!" is a great way to remember to make sure our BLUE slips outnumber our PINK slips. We don't want to "hide" our respectful and responsible behaviors! We want them to stick out each and everyday!

Share with your families how many Cadet Pride slips we have right now (124) and what our goal is to achieve by September 30 (200)!! I am SOOOOOOO happy for our class! This is wonderful. Also, share with your families the new "twist" we have added to earning our Cadet Pride slips.

Let's see if Wednesday (our 3-hour early out) will give us a chance to show-off our fabulous behaviors!! I'll know you checked the blog tonight/today if you stand on your chair after I check your planner and scream "We Won't HIDE our Cadet PRIDE!" to cheer on our class for the day! I can't wait to see who is the most spirit!! Maybe I'll even add a little reward for the one with the most enthusiasm!!!!!

Oh, and here's a heads up about our Wacky Wednesday schedule for tomorrow...
8:45 - 9:05 PE
9:10 - 9:25 Homeroom
9:30 - 10:05 SS/Sci.
10:10 - 10:45 Math/WS
10:50 - 11:30 Reading class only
Lunch (no recess on early outs)
12:05 - 12:25 Planners and Cadet Pride Check-In!

Remembering 9-11

Hey, 5B Babycakes...
I want to thank everyone in class for being so repsectful and showing so much honor to the tragedy on September 11, 2001. I was overwhelmed with feelings to see so many students be touched by the video, the picture book September 12, the word/tower building and the song. I decided to put the video clip to the side of this post in case so of you wanted to share it with your parents. To view the whole thing, click the title of the video at the top of the screen. You'll also want to Pause or Stop the playlist, otherwise you'll have 2 sets of music going on at the same time.

I know some families do not allow their children to use YouTube, so I understand if you choose not to view this. However, I was extremely impressed with how serious 5B talked about and thought about the events of Sepember 11th and realize we can come back even stronger after a terribly sad event. The Power of Words in our reading and writing will remind us of this every day. I hope we all can continue to honor those people who were lost in the events of that sad day by being the best we possibly can be. Think about how our Respect Pledge will help us do that.

Hopefully, you enjoyed the great weather this weekend. Check out the list of upcoming events below to keep yourselves organized for the week (and weeks to come).

Upcoming Dates/Events to Remember...
Tuesday, Sept. 14 - School Pictures!!! (bring money envelopes if buying school pictures)
Tuesday, Sept. 14 - Book Orders due - either online payments, cash or check to Scholastic Book Clubs
Wednesday, Sept. 15 - 3-hour early out, Bus Evacuation drill in A.M. right away

Coming up still in September...
MISIC testing (last weeks of September)
Norman Borlaug Farm Field Trip (Friday, September 24)

I'll know you checked the blog today/tonight by having out your social studies and science materials at your desk by the time I come around and check planners! Mondays have busy mornings.

Thursday, September 9, 2010

What Goes Up, Must Come Down...

Well, 5B...
I saw and heard amazing work and respect from each of you today!!! The most excellent time was during our writing activity that shows artists are writers, too! Fabulous!! My smile was from ear to ear with pride for our class!!!

But like our other days, we have some behaviors that are continuing to show DISrespect. We will continue to work on it, but as you saw today, I'm going to get stricter and expect the correct behaviors the first time, without reminders.

Please share with your families the struggle we're having. Ask them if they have any ideas to help us out! That will be the way I know you checked the blog. Have a list of ideas from YOU and (if possible) YOUR FAMILY. Have it out when I check planners tomorrow.

Also, remember our goal of ALL 23 planners signed for tomorrow!! I'll keep my promise of blue cadet slips AND I will even bring an EXTRA treat in case I feel like celebrating even more!!

Take care Babycakes!
Tomorrow is FRIDAY

R-E-S-P-E-C-T

5B,
Enjoy your extra day off of school. Hopefully, you and your family can spend some fun time together. I know you didn't have much homework, so enjoy the freedom while you have it. More responsibilities will be coming for homework over the next few weeks.

Just to give you a heads up, we'll be doing a little activity during some homeroom time on Tuesday to remind 5B what it looks like and sounds like to have Cadet Pride. R-E-S-P-E-C-T is your hint. If you get a chance, go through my playlist of songs. Listen to the song called, "Respect" by Aretha Franklin. It's song number 76. This will help prepare you for the activity we will be doing on Tuesday!!

A few reminders for next week...
Monday - no school - Don't show up...we won't be there!
Tuesday - band practice day - out of literacy class
special R-E-S-P-E-C-T activity
Wednesday - library - out of math class
Friday - 1st Guidance Class with Mrs. McCabe!! - out of ss/science class

Thursday, September 2, 2010

Tomorrow's Friday!!!!!!

5B,
I have to say we're getting better with baby steps. Keep it up. I'm proud of the behaviors that have earned us another 64 Cadet Pride slips! That's amazing! Tomorrow, I'll let you know what our new goal to reach by the end of September is.....it will be a tough one, but I KNOW you are capable of it!

Thank your moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, etc. for returning the parent contact information. I'll be calling your homes/cells soon!

Excitement for tomorrow: ICE CREAM! EXTRA RECESS and ART CLASS!!!

I'll know you checked the blog today/tonight if you visit this link of this game and can tell me what it was about!! I'll ask you to whisper it to me during planner time in the morning.

The link is right below the list of followers. It's says "Play Me".
See you tomorrow! Hope you're hungry!!

Another Rollercoaster Today!

Wow! 5B started this day AMAZING!!!! Homeroom was wonderful, literacy was filled with good listeners and hard workers the entire time!! Then the afternoon came with planners and chatting on the floor??? Yikes??!!

I appreciate everything you shared with me in my ear as you walked out the door today. I will help you work on that particular job you want to improve on.

I'll know you checked the blog tonight/today if you visit the link I have listed below. Watch the video. Write down 1 word in your planner that you feel about what you watched.

Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2p5augniQA

We'll watch it again in homeroom on Thursday.

Go Cadet Pride!!
Mrs. Sorenson

Much Better Tuesday!!

5B, I got to see much improved behaviors today, especially in literacy class. Way to go! Remember to give your parents the green note about contact information. As soon as I get that back, I can start giving your houses a quick call or email!

I'll keep it short today/tonight. Tomorrow we have P.E right away and library class. So, don't forget the right shoes and books to return for library (if you're done with them.)

I'll know you checked the blog this time if you stand up on your chair (AFTER I CHECK YOUR PLANNNER) and say nice and loud, "I'm a chicken, BAWK, BAWK" while flapping your arms like wings!! We'll see how brave our classmates are with this task!

Have a super night. See you tomorrow, 5B Babycakes (nmnmnnmnmnm).

Rollercoaster of Behaviors

Hey there, 5B.
I chatted with Mrs. McCabe and the other 5th grade teachers today after you were dismissed. We talked about all sorts of things. The most exciting topic was that ALL of the 5th grades will be getting to celebrate their 100 Cadet Pride slips together! We had a great time planning for the day and time we will enjoy an extra recess and ice cream treats! We have something planned for this week! Yippee!!

The not-so-fun topic was about behavior we saw today that was not supporting the Cadet Pride we've been working on. We discussed that 5B needs a bit more work after today's classes. Remember, just because you show how to be respectful once, doesn't mean you're done. Showing Cadet Pride is being RESPECTFUL by listening instead of talking, RESPONSIBLE by getting work done, CARING by treating others in a friendly way and TRUSTWORTHY even when an adult is not looking. Unfortunately, we saw students making mistakes in all of these areas today. I know this class is filled with respectful, friendly and responsible students. We need to work on showing this ALL of the time, though. Don't worry, I'll do my best to remind you.

I know you are all pretty cool kiddos because I was able to read through all of the Parent Homework from last week (Million Words or Less). We have some fun, sweet, helpful, active, and creative students in our room. Let's work on showing our very best sides!

A couple of reminders for this week...
Tomorrow (Tuesday): Band Practice comes out of Math classes
Wednesday: Library comes out of Sci./SS classes
Friday: Special Recess and Ice Cream Planned!!

I'll know you checked the blog tonight if you can put together a list of 5 "jobs" students should be doing during the school day. Write this in your planner or another piece of paper. Show it to me when I come around and check planners! Can't wait to see you prove what you know!!

Stay cool...

100 Cadet Pride Cards!!!

5B, I sure hope you had a chance to tell your families about our amazing task we accomplished last Friday! 100 acts of respectful behaviors in our first 7 days of school is truly something to be proud of. I'll be talking to Mrs. McCabe about our celebration of recess and ice cream after school on Monday. Maybe we can make time for it this week! That would be wonderful!

Well, I hope everyone was healthy this weekend. My household came down with the flu after my son had it earlier in the week. I'm better now, but I sure hope I didn't pass it onto anyone in our class. Remember to keep hands washed or use antibacterial hand sanitizer. We want to start off our year staying germ-free if possible!!

Also, remember that tomorrow is a P.E. day, so make sure to have the correct shoes on right away when you come in the morning. There will be new jobs for people, too. So check the jobs as you walk in.

I'll know you checked the blog tonight if you have out the materials for social studies and science classes on your table or desk along with your planners to be checked. Monday is a busy day right from the start, so the more ready you are, the easier your day will be.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and we'll see you bright and early Monday morning!

Week #2 Flying By....

Good evening, my darling little 5B Angels (ding)!

We've been having some wonderful moments in class and in the hallway, and we've had some moments that could use some work still. I know it takes a while to get back into the school mode, so I'll do my best to help remind you. Obviously, you've been showing how respectful and how full of Cadet Pride you are by the looks of our jar! I can't wait to count them tomorrow to see what our total is. Remember, our goal is to get 100 of them before Labor Day. That is a week from Friday! I'm sure we can do this!!!

I wanted to also let you know to tell your families that bought Activity Tickets from the school to expect them tomorrow. You should be bringing them home with you after school. This would be just in time to use them for our first home football game!

I'll know you checked the blog tonight is you write in your planner that we are meeting with Mrs. Sovereign, our principal, tomorrow morning. She will be going over correct behaviors for arriving at school and leaving. All you need to write in your planner is "Meeting with Mrs. Sovereign".

One last reminder, tomorrow is FRIDAY!!!!!! Yippee!!! It's been a fast week. I can't believe we'll be starting our 3rd week of school soon. That doesn't seem possible, does it?! On Fridays, I like to show my Cadet Pride by wearing blue or something to do with Cadets! So, if you have something like this, try to wear it each Friday as a reminder of how proud you feel to be a Cadet!!!

See you soon!
Mrs. Sorenson

Maniac Monday!!!

Well, so much for having a regular start to a week?! Everyone looked a wee bit tired this morning when we came into school, so the free afternoon was probably good to rest up. However, I'm thinking "rest" is NOT what the kids will be up to this afternoon at all. Oh, well, either way, I hope you're enjoying some extra fun in the sun before summer ends.

I am happy to announce that several 5B students received the blue Cadet Pride cards today for respectful behaviors. Excellent. We don't quite have it all figured out yet with chatting and make the best choices, but we will continue to work on it day after day so each and every one of our classmates demonstrates qualities of Cadet Pride! (Caring, Respectful, Responsible, Trustworthy)

I'll know you checked the blog today or tonight if you can remember the 4 words that remind us about our Cadet Pride. Hint (I just wrote them up above...they are written in red!!!!) Whisper those 4 words in my ear when I come around to check your planners to see if they have been signed by your families. Good luck!

A couple reminders... We have parent homework due on Wednesday of this week. Remind your moms and dads, my little 5B Angels! Also, we will be switching classes tomorrow as it says in your planners, so be ready for your first class at 8:45!

A special birthday wish goes out to Allison! Hope you had fun on your free afternoon!

Thanks for a great day, 5B.

Love,
Mrs. Sorenson

First Week of School

5B Students and Families,

Can you believe that we made it through our first week (okay, only 2 days) together?! I'm having a fantastic time getting to know you all. Though I'm sure there are many, many details I have yet to learn about you. I also hope to share more about me with you this week as we get into the swing of things.

Thanks for being such sweet 5B Angels (ding)! Let's keep it up by having and showing Cadet Pride. Our jobs as students and teachers are important everyday and everywhere we go.

See you soon,
Mrs. Sorenson!

Is It That Time Already?

My goodness, time flies when you're not doing school work, huh?! I can't believe it's August already, and school is just around the corner. I meant to post more messages this summer, but obviously the time has just slipped by me.

I have enjoyed reading comments from "former" 5B babycakes. I appreciate your sharing and thoughts. I think Kelsey is trying to make me cry again with her last comments!!!! Don't worry, I'll be stronger this time around!

I hope everyone is having super summers and chances to see friends and family. I'm guessing you'll all be suntanned and full of 6th grade attitude when I next see you!! Just remember your 5B Mama still thinks of you and will see you in the hallways ready for a smile or hug!!

Take care, Munchkins!!

Summer Has Officially Started!

Wow... now that my eyes have dried back up and I've gotten ahold of myself, I can take a deep breath and enjoy the fact that summer has begun. I do still have another day to spend at school on Tuesday for teacher workshops and cleaning up the room, but this weekend's weather has given me a wonderful taste of summer fun! I hope all my "former" 5Ber's have had an enjoyable weekend to start off their vacations as well.

I wanted to thank my 5B Babycakes one more time for a wonderful year. You were a super class to teach, and I will brag about you to the upcoming 5B students and your future 6th grade teachers.

I'll continue to share thoughts throughout the summer on the blog. As a 5B student, you have a free pass to always check the 5B Blog, see what's going on with me, the newest class, photos, etc. Oh, and speaking of photos, I'll be putting on a newer slideshow of pictures from the last 2 months of school, so make sure to check back and see if there are any of you in them!!

Have fun in the sun..and make sure to say hi, give me a hug or a high five if you see me sometime this summer! You can also leave a comment for me or the rest of the checkers!

Take care...and signing off the 2009-2010 school year...

Love,

Mrs. Sorenson

2nd to Last Monday... Sad but True

I can NOT believe how fast time flies. It seems like we were just meeting at 3rd quarter conferences! My babies are growing up and getting ready to leave me! I'm sure most of you are checking that countdown on the side of the blog, with smiles getting bigger and bigger!

I'll know you checked the blog tonight if you write down the days, hours, minutes and seconds from the countdown at the time you checked the blog. Show it to me in the morning before we have Mrs. Schmitt share her Wusabi news.

Remember what I mentioned at the end of the day today... getting work done on time and done with 5th grade expectations results in a wonderful and enjoyable day on Friday at our Track and Field Day. If work is not done, is late or is not done to your best ability, you should not plan on spending that morning of with your classmates. (Remember, 3 strikes, and you're OUT.) Hopefully, there will be no need to worry about this set-up, but I just wanted to remind you that the teachers are prepared to follow through with this arrangement. I beg (challenge) you to prove us wrong!!!

Wacky Wednesday...

On top of it being a wacky day with an early-out, we got the bad news of our field trip being cancelled on Thursday. I'm thinking we're better off being warm and dry in our classrooms than freezing our hineys off dripping wet. At least we still have Friday's trip to St. Paul to look forward to. So, don't forget all of your items, lunch, etc.

Now, that the teachers have had a chance to chat, we're thinking it might be the perfect opportunity to view some commercials of some wonderful new products out on the market! We'll plan on doing this at the end of the day tomorrow. Get ready to see our fabulous actors and actresses try to persuade you to buy these products!!

Don't Forget...
Memory Piece draft due tomorrow
Math Snack Note due tomorrow
Piece #4 due Tuesday (May 18)
Reading Civil War Song Extra Credit due next Wednesday (May 19)
Math Extra Credit due next Thursday (May 20)

I'll know you checked the blog today/tonight if write down something you would like to learn about while on our field trip on Friday. Share it with me when you come in right away in the morning! It's always smart to have a PURPOSE for learning!
